Originally from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Dr. Phillips studied at Georgetown University, graduating cum laude with a degree in human science. He earned his medical degree from Wright State University, graduating in the top 10% of his class, and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Michigan, followed by fellowship training in chronic and interventional pain at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Prior to joining the International Spine, Pain & Performance Center, Dr. Phillips practiced for four years in Rochester, New York, where he also served as faculty for the Rochester Regional Health PM&R residency program and as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Mark D. Klaiman is the co-founder of Point Performance. He received his Doctorate in Medicine from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Columbia University. He is board certified and has been a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1994.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Klaiman was a visiting associate in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. He has lectured extensively over the years and has numerous writings and publications focused on the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal soft tissue injuries. Dr. Klaiman received his medical acupuncture training through the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture in 1995 and is recognized as a leading provider of medical acupuncture in the Washington DC region.
Lucia Moutoux, MSN, FNP-BC, is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner with extensive expertise in interventional pain management and interventional pulmonology. She began and ended her formal education at historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s).In 2010, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Sojourner Douglass College with a licensed practical nursing certification. Sojourner Douglass College was the only HBCU in Maryland that offered the LPN-BSN bridge program.In 2012, she completed the bachelor program graduating Cum Laude, earning a bachelor of science in nursing degree. In 2017, she entered the accelerated nurse practitioner program at Coppin State University. After two years, she graduated with a master’s in science of nursing, specializing in Family Nurse Practitioner.
Throughout her registered nursing career, she has worked in a variety of specialties that have molded her into well-rounded health professional. Ms. McCutchen’s first year and a half of her nursing career were spent in long-term care with a focus on skilled nursing and physical rehabilitation. In 2013, she transitioned from long-term skilled nursing to sub-acute in a hospital setting. Dr. Kapteyn received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV, followed by a medical internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Kapteyn then pursued his residency at Georgetown University and the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington D.C. He further honed his expertise through fellowship training in interventional pain at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr Kapteyn is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, pain medicine, and board eligible Hospice and Palliative care. A multidisciplinary, balanced approach to pain medicine is a hallmark of his care to bring improvement in function. From 2009 to 2013, Dr. Kapteyn served as the Medical Director of Pain Medicine at Drake Hospital, a University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he served and at times led the medical executive committee and represented Drake on the drug planning and development committee. Kapteyn subsequently entered private practice with Orthopedic Associates Muskegon, where he worked until 2023. During his career, he also worked as a physician consultant with Hydrocision, and as the physician lead in the development of TenJet for minimally invasive tenotomies. Additionally, Dr. Kapteyn worked in hospice and palliative care with Harbor Hospice,and served as an independent director and science consultant on the board of NewAge Beverages from 2017-2020. Dr. Kapteyn has gained recognition for his skills in minimally invasive ultrasound guided procedures, including carpal tunnel release and trigger finger releases, as well as TenJet for elbow tenotomy, hip, shoulder, and achilles tendon. In addition to spinal injections, Dr Kapteyn performs procedures such as basi-vertebral nerve ablation, interspinous vertiflex for spinal stenosis, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, kyphoplasty and radiofrequency ablation. A Grand Rapids, MI native, Dr. Kapteyn loves the warm weather and vibrant culture of the nations capital, Washington, DC, and is excited to return. He enjoys ballroom dancing, performing vocally, performing recently with the Williamsburg Symphony, he enjoys both HIIT and tabata exercising, golfing, cooking, gardening and hiking and mountain biking. He has three college-aged daughters and was married to Nancy Kapteyn for 25 years until she passed away from breast cancer. In her memory, Dr. Kapteyn encourages contributions to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
