I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I began my journey to psychiatry as a registered nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2006. I spent 14 years gaining clinical experience working with adolescent and adult inpatients and in emergency departments and correctional facilities. MIU Center was created by Dr. Munachim Uyanwune in 2021. Dr. Uyanwune fondly known as “Dr. U” was inspired to create this practice in response to all the turbulent events in 2020, particularly the coronavirus pandemic, racial discrimination and the stigma associated with mental health. While growing up, Dr. Uyanwune saw untreated mental illness in her community. She learned that the impact of this extends wide, affecting the individual, their family and their community at large. At MIU Center, we realize people are unique and hence each person will require different approaches in helping them reach their vision and goals. MIU Center provides medication management for treatment of behavioral health disorders.
Bethany is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). She completed her post Master’s certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Johns Hopkins University, graduating in the Summer of 2024.
Bethany has over 15 years of experience in healthcare. She holds Bachelor degrees in both Psychology from Mary Washington University and Nursing from Shenandoah University (BSN). She practiced as a Registered Nurse (RN) at Inova Fairfax Hospital for 5 years before obtaining her Master’s degree from Frontier University in 2015. She has been practicing as a Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner (FNP) for the past 9 years in primary care, urgent care and outpatient psychiatric settings.
She discovered a passion for helping patients manage their mental health, and decided to focus her practice in psychiatry. She enjoys working with patients to manage their anxiety, insomnia, OCD, depression, ADHD, adjustment disorders, and PTSD.
