I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. My philosophy is an integrative approach in treating the whole person -- including the biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual factors. I emphasize education so you feel empowered and understand why medication may be necessary, what the medication is, and why you are taking it. While medications are an important part of treatment, they are often times not the long-term solution. We can carefully weigh the potential benefits and risks to find the best option for you.
My primary goal is to make sure that I provide the best care to my patients. In some cases, the limitations of outpatient treatment do not allow the ability to provide the level of care that I think you deserve. I can provide feedback, temporary services, and assistance with referral options.
“I am deeply grateful to Michael for his unwavering support during my mental health and alcohol recovery journey. From the start, he has been compassionate and genuinely invested in my well-being. His encouraging approach has made a significant impact on my life. With his professional team, Michael provided the guidance I needed to overcome my challenges with substance use and mental health. If you or someone you know is facing a similar struggle, I highly recommend Michael and his team.”
As a double board-certified practitioner in medicine and psychiatry, I am acutely aware of the impact of mental health on overall wellbeing.
I leverage my background in critical care, preventative care, surgery and psychiatry to provide an evidence-based and results-oriented holistic approach catered to each individual.
My specialties include, but are not limited to treating and managing ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood disorders, stress management, adjustment disorders, and OCD.
I combine medication management sessions with individual psychotherapy to achieve optimal results in a culturally sensitive and emotionally safe space for the client.
My treatment plans are developed in conjunction with the client to provide focused care aimed at encouraging personal growth and development.
By working together, we will concentrate on improving somatic symptoms, unhealthy behaviors and emotional imbalances to correct and enhance quality of life and instill positive thinking.
"I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) continuing to build upon my 7+ years of experience in a variety of psychiatric and behavioral healthcare settings. As an Iowa native and someone who feels so passionately about mental health, I am beyond excited to foster accessible care through telepsychiatry services across the state of Iowa, as well as Minnesota and soon New York. At this time, I provide services in Iowa and Minnesota via telepsychiatry and am also a licensed and residing provider in the state of New York. My treatment approach utilizes aspects of CBT, complementary therapies, and the mindset that medication is a tool, not the solution. A mental health diagnosis by no means defines an individual, it simply helps conceptualize a current level of understanding of the patient's presenting symptoms and circumstances and is meant to be refined to best attain the supports and services needed for optimal outcomes and long-term success. I am dual board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. I see clients from age 12 and up. People come to treatment for all sorts of reasons — anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulty functioning at work or school, family conflict, challenges in relationships, low self-esteem, or simply a desire to learn more about themselves. As a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with expertise in both medication management and psychotherapy, I can help patients develop a treatment plan that meets their needs. My style is guided by warmth and flexibility, with the goals of helping patients build insight and reduce symptoms.
I create individualized treatment plans, assessing patients' goals, unique life experiences, and biological risk factors. While medication is useful in some cases, I am dedicated to helping my patients achieve lasting change through therapy as well.
