Kelly Tobin is a Board Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who underwent extensive training working with patients with psychiatric disorders across the lifespan and across multiple practice settings. Her education includes a Master of Science in Nursing, from the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI. She also has more than a decade of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a Level 1 Trauma Center in Hartford, Connecticut. Kelly has worked with an extremely diverse adult population as a staff nurse. She values the practice of medicine and nursing, however, she also strongly believes in holistic, complimentary, and alternative therapies as treatment options for patients and is passionate about the palliative effects of marijuana when used for medicinal purposes.
Nurse Practitioners Gerontology Group is a clinical group based in Bloomfield, Connecticut. We offer an extensive range of health care and chronic disease management services to the young adult and the older population—specifically, individuals between the age of 21 to 121 and beyond. Our founder, Chena McPherson, APRN, has been in medicine for over 20 years. She has experience working as a Registered Nurse, an ADNS, and a Director of Nursing. In addition, she has experience working in a hospital setting, subacute settings, long-term care, and home care setting. Nigel moved from Jamaica to Hartford as a young man and pursued his vision for a career in healthcare. He attended Capital Community College, then the University of Hartford, receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing. He went on to earn a master’s degree from Walden University in 2017.
As a student, Nigel witnessed first-hand the difference in health outcomes caused by disparities in healthcare accessibility between low-income residents in Hartford County and other members of the community.
He developed a passion for bringing quality healthcare to the underserved and educating his patients, particularly about the medical conditions that disproportionately affected them. Nigel’s vision for a career in healthcare has evolved into Care Team Health, where he continues to serve the community that had welcomed him in his youth.
I am an APRN who is board certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. I have been trained in psychotherapy as well as pharmacotherapy. I specialize in treating children and adolescents who struggle with emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues and have extensive experience in treating psychiatric symptoms related to trauma. After working with some of the most vulnerable children in the state, I truly understand the importance of fostering a positive relationship between client and provider. I believe in a balanced approach to treatment that includes therapy, evidenced-based use of medication when necessary, and in some cases genetic testing. I strongly believe that psychiatric treatment for children and adolescents works best when we include families, therapists, schools, and primary care providers.
