Ashwin Gowda, MD is board certified in sleep medicine and psychiatry. He has been providing care to those in South Austin since 2002 and is currently the Medical Director of Texas Sleep Medicine. His medical practice offers consultations, sleep studies (in the lab and at home studies) and all ongoing care to ensure the best possible outcome. Common sleep disorders diagnosed and treated include snoring/obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, insomnia, parasomnias and circadian rhythm disorders.

My outpatient practice will serve families who deal with psychiatric concerns of mood, disruptive behaviors, and difficulties in learning and school performance. It is hard to sum up a bio in such limited character space, but to be concise and focused, I am here to serve in psychiatry, I believe mental health healing can occur, with both medication and psychotherapy, or one or the other. Under my care, I will have an open conversation with patients about their diagnoses, educate them, as well as offer psychotropic medication depending on the severity. I am a firm believer in aiming for PROGRESS not perfection, and I encourage patients to be patient with themselves, since perfection is not possible and that all we can do is one step at a time. Upon choosing medication I always take the whole person into consideration and do my best to minimize the amount of medications needed to prescribe. I stay on top of the most recent literature as much as possible, and will sometimes share my notes from recent lectures with patients. My goal is to walk alongside my patients for mental healing, never ahead or above them.
Hello! I am happy to be serving my hometown community. I trained at Baylor College of Medicine for medical school, then at the University of South Florida for residency. I published a couple papers along the way, became board certified, and taught and mentored quite a few students. I have two passions within my field. First, I have a passion for serving our LGBTQIA community here in San Antonio, including assistance with gender-affirming care. My second passion is to continue learning and exploring augmentation of allopathic medicine and psychotherapeutic techniques with holistic practices including meditation, Barnes-style myofascial release, reiki, and other modalities that help me to understand and better relate to my patients. My goal is to be able to speak the healing language that resonates best with you. I enjoy my daily Kriya yoga practice, skydiving, keeping fit, cooking, crochet, and sci-fi.
