Benjamin Petty, MD, is a double-board-certified family physician and sports medicine specialist in Dunn, North Carolina, who’s passionate about getting you active again. He offers cutting-edge, minimally invasive supportive therapies to help your body heal itself without surgery or significant downtime. He’s an expert in regenerative treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Bone Marrow aspiration concentration(BMAC) therapy, that accelerate healing and can even regrow damaged tissue or bone.
Dr. Petty played Division I basketball for the North Carolina State Wolfpack at North Carolina State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He received his doctor of medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed a family medicine residency at the University of South Alabama.
Dr. Petty then completed a sports medicine fellowship from Campbell Clinic Orthopedics in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the most prestigious orthopedic medical centers in the United States. In fact, Campbell Clinic’s doctors wrote the book on orthopedics, “Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics,” now in its 13th edition, which is considered to be the preeminent international text on orthopedic surgery.
He obtained additional training at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic and at The Orthobiologic Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied regenerative medicine.
In addition to specializing in nonsurgical orthopedics, orthobiologics, sports medicine, and concussion management, Dr. Petty has extensive skills in advanced ultrasound techniques. His interest in sports-related concussions and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) led him to become a Certified ImPACT Consultant for testing and treating neurocognitive issues in athletes.
Due to his combined love for and expertise in sports and medicine, Dr. Petty has served as team physician for multiple high school and college teams. He’s also worked with professional athletes for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and the minor league baseball Memphis Redbirds.
