He moved to Tampa, Florida, for his ophthalmology residency at the University of South Florida. After residency graduation, Dr. Golen completed a cornea fellowship at the F.I. Prior to moving back to Florida for private practice, Dr. Golen was on faculty at the University of Virginia for three years as an ophthalmologist, cornea specialist, cornea and cataract surgeon, and assistant residency program director. At UVA, Dr. Golen treated complex cataracts, severe traumas, advanced infections, and congenital eye disorders. Given the severe disease state of some of the cornea cases, he even implanted multiple Boston Keratoprosthesis corneal transplants, a part prosthetic, part biologic artificial cornea.

Dr. Naddia Barrios is originally a Florida native having completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Florida International University Miami, FL in 2005. She received her Doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2009 where she earned numerous awards for clinical excellence and scholarship. She is fluent in English and Spanish. 

She completed internships at Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute and Eye Centers of South Florida. In 2010, Dr. Barrios successfully completed a one-year optometric residency in Ocular Disease at Aran Eye Associates, Coral Gables, FL.Upon completion of the residency, she joined the staff at Aran Eye Associates specializing in surgical patient and disease managment, and advanced glaucoma care. She remained at Aran Eye Associates until her move to Central Florida early 2018.

Ricardo J. Ramirez, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist serving the communities of Orlando and Kissimmee, Florida, for over 20 years at Ramirez & Poulos MD, PA.

Dr. Ramirez went to college at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, where he also earned his medical degree from the university’s School of Medicine. He then moved to the United States and did his internship and residency at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado, where he was selected chief resident.

During his residency, Dr. Ramirez also served as a flight surgeon with the 224th Military Intelligence Battalion. He later worked as chief of the ophthalmology department and as assistant chief of surgery at Irwin Army Community Hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas. Dr. Ramirez served with distinction and was awarded a Flight Surgeon Badge in 1982, an Army Commendation Medal in 1983, and an Army Meritorious Service Medal in 1989.

Dr. Poulos attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where she studied biology. She went on to complete her medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. After completing her medical training, Dr. Poulos worked in private practice at Eye Care Associates in Clayton, Missouri. During this time, she also served as an assistant clinical professor at Washington University’s visual sciences department.

In 1996, Dr. Poulos moved to Florida and became a named partner at Ramirez & Poulos, MD, where she continues to work to this day. She is affiliated with the Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida, and is a fellow at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
