After completing his residency, Dr. Brotherton started his service in the United States Air Force. For his first assignment at Osan Air Base in South Korea, he provided orthopedic care to over 10,000 active duty soldiers and their dependents. During his service in the Air Force, he attained the rank of major and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his excellent service overseas. Dr. Brotherton then returned to his native Florida and completed his military service at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida’s panhandle. 

In his pursuit of higher learning, Dr. Brotherton completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
