The foundational attitude and approach I bring to each time we meet is what I like to call 'therapeutic presence.' The idea is not mine. My introduction to the practice of therapeutic presence came by wedding my natural gifts with hard work to finish degrees and residencies. These academic and clinical introductions occurred while I studied at multiple universities that awarded me degrees and/or post-licensure certificates. Some of my alma maters are the University of Texas at Arlington, Valparaiso University, Concordia College/University, St. John’s University-Seminary (MN.), the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the University of California at San Francisco. Concurrent with studies and subsequent ranked professorial appointments over twenty years, I maintained an active clinical practice at least eight hours weekly and often more. I place high value in the knowledge I have acquired 'on the job.' Often the ones who teach me most are those who seek my care.
