Hi! My name is Michael Barnes. I am a nurse practitioner who is board certified in psychiatry and am passionate about helping clients with their mental health needs. I have experience treating a broad range of mental health conditions since 2016. I am a retired Army Veteran with a special passion for helping those suffering from trauma and addiction. My approach to mental health is working with the client as a team incorporating a holistic approach to identify and treat the client's mental health needs.

I am dual board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. I see clients from age 12 and up. People come to treatment for all sorts of reasons — anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulty functioning at work or school, family conflict, challenges in relationships, low self-esteem, or simply a desire to learn more about themselves. As a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with expertise in both medication management and psychotherapy, I can help patients develop a treatment plan that meets their needs. My style is guided by warmth and flexibility, with the goals of helping patients build insight and reduce symptoms. I create individualized treatment plans, assessing patients' goals, unique life experiences, and biological risk factors. While medication is useful in some cases, I am dedicated to helping my patients achieve lasting change through therapy as well.

Yiyi Zhang, MD, is a board-certified neurologist practicing at Riverhills Neuroscience, which has three office locations in Cincinnati; Norwood, Westside, and Anderson, and another in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. 

Dr. Zhang completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, where she majored in biochemistry and graduated cum laude. She then attended medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine before completing her neurology residency and neuromuscular medicine fellowship at the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Todd A. Hayes, DO, is a board-certified neurologist with over 20 years of experience. He currently serves patients at Riverhills Neuroscience's Norwood and Anderson locations in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he provides compassionate care and advanced treatments for various neurological disorders.

Dr. Hayes completed his doctoral degree in osteopathic medicine at Des Moines University, Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He also completed a neurology residency at St. John Detroit Oakland Hospital in the Michigan State University System.  In addition, Dr. Hayes attended a Master’s degree program in health and humanities and completed a Bachelor of Science in Physiology from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

After graduating cum laude from The Ohio State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Neuroscience, Dr. Nanavaty earned a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2020. She then completed a neurology residency at the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine, followed by a fellowship in epilepsy at Vanderbilt University in 2025.

Michael Schmerler, MD, is a double-board-certified internal medicine physician and neurologist at Riverhills Neuroscience, providing high-quality neurology care to people in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Dr. Schmerler brings more than 40 years of experience to the practice. He began his career at Northwestern University in Chicago, earning his undergraduate degree, and obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
