June 2025 month-long observances

Here are key month-long observances to participate in throughout June.

Men's Health Month 

Men's Health Month was established in 1994 through legislation introduced by Kansas Senator Bob Dole. The bill, which received Congressional approval, aims to promote early detection and treatment of men's health issues.

The annual event aims to raise awareness of preventable health problems for males of all ages. Programs should encourage early detection and treatment of preventable diseases and conditions, including cancer, prostate cancer, heart disease, and depression. Health initiatives may also include information and support for healthy living through diet and exercise. 

Marketing ideas:

  • Offer free health screenings for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and prostate cancer; partner with local healthcare providers if need be. 
  • Host educational workshops focusing on nutrition, fitness, and mental health.
  • Plan social media campaigns across platforms to share infographics, testimonials, and tips about men’s health. The Men’s Health Network has provided a 2025 social media toolkit.
  • Organize community events such as fun runs, bike rides, or sports tournaments to promote physical activity. Be sure to set up informational booths and other health resources at these events.
  • Partner with businesses in your community to establish corporate wellness programs, offering seminars on men’s health issues and incentives for employees to get regular check-ups.`

During Men’s Health Week (June 9–15), consider creating special appointment blocks dedicated to men's wellness checks.

PTSD Awareness Month 

In 2010, June 27 was established as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day in honor of Staff Sergeant Joe Biel, a National Guard service member who experienced PTSD and died by suicide in 2007. In 2014, the federal government extended the observance, making June PTSD Awareness Month. 

Offer free PTSD self-screenings and partner with qualified counselors to connect your patients with the help they need.

While PTSD is most often associated with combat veterans, the truth is PTSD can affect anyone who has witnessed or experienced a traumatic event. Outside of the military, PTSD can also affect first responders, victims of sexual or physical violence, or survivors of natural disasters or severe accidents. According to the National Center for PTSD, 13 million Americans had PTSD in 2020, and about 6% of the US population will have PTSD at some point in their lives.

Spearheading efforts for PTSD Awareness Month, The National Center for PTSD seeks to educate the public and promote understanding and support for those with PTSD.

Marketing ideas:

  • Host educational webinars featuring mental health professionals discussing PTSD, its symptoms, and treatment options. Be sure to offer Q&A sessions to address patient and community concerns and questions.
  • Plan storytelling campaigns through blogs, videos, and social media posts where individuals living with PTSD share real-life stories. Be sure to highlight their journeys and stress the importance of seeking help.
  • Offer free PTSD self-screenings and partner with qualified counselors to connect your patients with the help they need.
  • Support group initiatives: Partner with local organizations to promote support groups and therapy sessions for people living with PTSD and their families.

National Safety Month

National Safety Month, established by the National Safety Council (NSC) in 1996, is dedicated to reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the roads, and in homes and communities throughout June each year. This observance encourages organizations to promote safety awareness through educational programs and preventive measures that address workplace hazards, emergency preparedness, and personal wellness. 

Since its inception, National Safety Month has served as a catalyst for safety-conscious initiatives that protect employees, patients, and community members from preventable injuries. The NSC offers free educational safety tools and resources, including weekly facts and figures and more.

Marketing ideas:

  • Offer complimentary safety assessments for elderly patients to help prevent falls at home.
  • Create an engaging social media series highlighting "Safety Tips of the Day" with practical advice relevant to your patient demographics.
  • Host a community workshop on emergency preparedness, featuring demonstrations of basic first aid techniques and CPR training.

Autistic Pride Day

Observed each year on June 18, Autistic Pride Day was established in 2005 as the brainchild of Aspies for Freedom, an autism advocacy group. For nearly two decades, this day has been reserved to celebrate the neurodiversity of individuals with autism, promoting acceptance and understanding of autism as a unique part of human diversity.

Develop social media campaigns to educate your patients and the broader community about autism, emphasizing strengths rather than challenges.

When planning your activities and events, it may be helpful to familiarize yourself with some of the more common symbols associated with autism. 

First introduced by the National Autistic Society in 1963, the autism puzzle piece is a common symbol for autism (and perhaps the most popular). It features a series of multi-colored, interlocking puzzle pieces chosen to convey the condition's complexity and diversity. 

Over time, the puzzle piece transformed into a butterfly puzzle piece, which elegantly captures the idea of change while still representing the diversity of people on the autism spectrum. A rainbow-colored infinity symbol is yet another symbol of autism; this one represents the infinite variations on the spectrum.

National Cancer Survivors Day 

First observed in 1987, National Cancer Survivors Day is held annually on the first Sunday of June — falling on June 1 this year. The official NCSD theme is A Celebration of Life — a recognition of cancer survivors and their families, friends, and healthcare providers who care for them. This observance is meant to be an affirmation of life, demonstrating that life after a cancer diagnosis can be fruitful and inspiring. The official colors for Cancer Survivors Day are red, white, and blue. June is National Cancer Survivors Month. 

Marketing ideas:

  • Share stories of cancer survivors in your community through newsletters, blogs, and social media. Focus on their journeys, resilience, and post-cancer achievements.
  • Organize community events such as picnics, parades, or concerts to honor cancer survivors. Include activities like survivor recognition ceremonies and resource fairs.
