Dr. “Joe” is an accomplished doctorate-prepared Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with more than 21 years of experience in patient care functioning as both a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
Dr. Joe specializes in care for those with Depressive & Anxiety disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and has a special interest in the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. He is currently only seeing patients age 18 or older.
I operate from a holistic point of view, keeping in mind that genetics, lifestyle, environment and our perceptions are key players in determining our biology and emotional wellness. Everyone has a unique perception of the world and of themselves, as well as their own values, beliefs, experiences and concepts of what would lead them to a happier life. Thanks to the brain’s ability to rewire itself, its need for medication may change during the course of treatment, which makes regular re-evaluation of this need crucial. I aim to prescribe the least amount of medication needed to help the issue(s) at hand and can help patients safely come off medications that are no longer needed, wanted or sufficiently helpful. I believe in my patients being well informed as to the processes that underlie their discomforts and treatment options and incorporate a small amount of psychotherapy in the care I provide to catalyze healing and neuroplastic development.

I have been practicing and teaching psychotherapy for almost 40 years. My psychiatric training started at the Oregon State Hospital in 1978. After two years I transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where I completed my psychiatric training and had my first psychiatric practice.
My primary focus is on each patient's relationship with him or herself. I see psychotherapy and all psychiatric treatment as a collaborative process in which I work with the patient to help them achieve their goals.
