James Appleton, DPM, FACFAS, is a board certified podiatrist and the newest partner of the Rhode Island Foot Care team. He currently sees patients at the practice’s locations in North Providence and Newport, and Rhode Island.
Dr. Appleton is a native Rhode Islander born in Providence. He attended Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts, from 2000-2004, and received his bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus in computer science. While attending Assumption University, he was actively involved in intramural sports and was a member of the baseball team. After obtaining a degree in biology, he attended the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and received his medical degree in 2010.
Dr. Appleton completed his podiatric medical and surgical residency from Roger Williams Medical Center, a program with an emphasis on forefoot and rearfoot reconstruction as well as diabetic wound care and limb salvage. There, he trained under many local podiatrists, as well as orthopedic surgeons, and served as the chief resident in his final year of training.

Dr. Biren Shah, DPM, provides expert foot and ankle care at Midwest Foot and Ankle Associates in Rockford, Illinois. Specializing in reconstructive surgery, sports medicine, and diabetic foot care, he offers treatments such as arthroscopy, limb salvage, and flat foot reconstruction.
Dr. Shah earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering in India before relocating to the U.S. to pursue nuclear medicine and attend Barry University for medical school. He then completed a three-year surgical residency at Jesse Brown VA in Chicago, specializing in foot and ankle surgery where he served as chief resident. Dr. Michal Waldman completed her undergraduate education at Brandeis University and went on to attend Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, where she graduated in the top of her class.
She completed her surgical residency at DVA New York Harbor Healthcare System, affiliated with New York University School of Medicine, where she served as Chief Medical and Surgical Resident.
She is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM).
She is trained in all areas of podiatric medicine and surgery, including but not limited to pedal dermatology, biomechanics and sports medicine, diabetic foot care, infectious disease, pediatrics, pain management, mesenchymal stem cell and cellular matrix applications, peripheral neuropathy, and limb salvage.

Dr. Daniel M. Parise is board certified in podiatric medicine (ABPM) and has a strong background in wound care. He provides compassionate treatment with a focus on the patient and a desire to help patients return to a pain free life. Dr. Parise starts with a conversation to understand the patients individual needs and then he works together with the patient to create a realistic and comprehensive plan of care. Dr. Parise is a graduate of Miami University Ohio with dual degrees in Zoology and Spanish. He then graduated from Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine before completing a three year podiatric medical and surgical residency at University Hospitals – Richmond Heights where he became well versed in treating bunions, hammertoes, neuromas, heel pain/plantar fasciitis, diabetic care and limb salvage, flat feet, ingrown nails, ulcers, warts, and many more pedal ailments. Dr. Parise has been in private practice since 2014. He is fluent in Spanish.
Steven Quan, DPM, is a board-certified wound specialist physician serving patients at Associated Foot Specialist in Hudson Massachusetts. As a podiatry specialist, Dr. Quan has received comprehensive training in foot and ankle surgery, wound management of the lower extremity, trauma, and sports medicine.
Dr. Quan was born and raised in Massachusetts. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute before pursuing his doctorate at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Quan then completed his residency at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he was selected as the chief resident.
