Dr. van Riel earned her medical degree at the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine (UBA) before completing her psychiatry residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami (UM). She also completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Fellowship. She has completed a research fellowship program in Psychoneuroimmunology at UM, and has worked in research at the UM for more than 8 years. She is board board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. van Riel has worked as Medical Director for mental health centers and partial hospitalization programs and is a Voluntary Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at UM. Dr van Riel works with patients ranging in age from adolescence to elderly. Patients benefit from her extensive clinical and research experience and compassionate attentive approach to psychiatric care.
Dr. van Riel does not accept insurance but she does provide the necessary paperwork for PPO insurance reimbursement.
Dr. van Riel’s staff responds to appointments requests tipically within 2 hours of the appointment time. If a patient calls for a consultation and wishes to schedule an appointment, one of her staff members will obtain patient's information through a brief questionaire after the appointment is confirmed. In most cases, she evaluates the patient for 60 minutes in person, or virtually at the time of the initial psychiatric evaluation, and offers 30 minute follow up appointments for all her stablished patients. Tamara Goodman, MD, is one of the exceptional neurologists practicing at Complete Neurological care, which has locations in Forest Hills and Queens, and the Financial District, Midtown, and in Manhattan, plus Valley Stream and Hicksville, New York. Dr. Ellen Edgar is the president of Complete Neurological Care, P.C. in New York and Florida. She is an American Board Certified Neurologist who holds double board certification from The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and The American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology (ABCN).
