• 48% of healthcare providers say patients now bring up TrumpRx pricing during appointments.
  • 51% of healthcare providers say patients have become more skeptical of insurance copays after comparing them to TrumpRx prices.
  • Pricing conversations are stretching the visit: more than 3 in 4 healthcare providers say TrumpRx discussions add time to appointments. When a cash-price request also forces staff to work around standard ePrescribing or PBM routing, 53% say the workaround adds time — about 5 minutes per affected patient.
  • 55% of Americans have heard of TrumpRx, and 11% have looked up a price, but only 3% have switched or changed a prescription because of it.

Prescription pricing conversations are moving into the exam room. In a June 2026 Tebra survey of 204 healthcare providers and 804 US consumers, 48% of providers said patients now bring up TrumpRx — the federal cash-price drug site launched in 2026 — during appointments, and 51% said patients have grown more skeptical of their insurance copays after comparing them to cash prices.

As patients arrive with more pricing information in hand, healthcare providers are spending more time discussing affordability, coverage, and treatment options. To understand how these conversations are changing clinical care, Tebra surveyed both Americans and healthcare providers about their experiences with TrumpRx.

What TrumpRx looks like from the doctor's side of the desk

The clearest signal of TrumpRx's reach isn't patient adoption. It's how often the topic now surfaces in appointments. Providers are fielding price questions, correcting assumptions about who qualifies, and adjusting prescriptions around cash costs. The data below shows what that shift looks like in practice.

  • 33% of healthcare providers have seen better medication adherence among patients who were once on cost-prohibitive drugs. Among those who have, 81% say the gains were concentrated in uninsured or underinsured patients.
  • 53% of healthcare providers have changed a medication they prescribed or recommended because of a cash-price option.
  • When a cash-price purchase forces healthcare providers or their staff to bypass standard ePrescribing or PBM routing, it adds an average of 5 minutes per affected patient.
  • Just over half of providers (53%) say the workaround adds time, while 47% say it adds none.

How patients engage with TrumpRx

Awareness is one thing, action is another. While more than half of Americans have heard of TrumpRx, far fewer have looked up a price, and fewer still have changed a prescription because of it.

  • 11% of Americans have looked up medication prices on TrumpRx. Republicans (14%) were more likely than Democrats (8%) to have done so.
  • 3% of Americans have switched or changed a prescription because of TrumpRx. Republicans (8%) were 4 times as likely as Democrats (2%) to have done so.
  • 4% of Americans have brought TrumpRx up with a doctor or prescriber. Republicans (9%) were 3 times as likely as Democrats (3%) to have done so.

What the TrumpRx effect means for your practice

For private practices, the TrumpRx effect signals that patients are paying closer attention to costs and expect their providers to engage with them. That means more pricing questions, more time spent explaining coverage, and more prescriptions adjusted around affordability.

The practices that handle this well are those that can address cost concerns without slowing care. Tebra's all-in-one EHR and ePrescribing software keeps pricing, routing, and patient records connected, so your team can navigate these conversations efficiently and keep visits focused on what matters most: the patient.

Methodology

Tebra conducted two surveys to explore how the federal cash-price drug site, TrumpRx, is changing how Americans and their clinicians discuss prescription costs. Among patients, we surveyed 804 Americans across four generations: Gen Z (16%), Millennials (42%), Gen X (29%), and Baby Boomers (12%). Both surveys were fielded in June 2026. Political comparisons are based on subsamples of 418 Democrats/lean Democrats and 185 Republicans/lean Republicans; findings for these groups carry wider margins of error than topline figures. Percentages may not sum to 100% due to rounding.

Among healthcare providers, we surveyed 204 US healthcare professionals spanning roles including physicians (MD or DO), nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinical roles such as dentists and pharmacists. Data was collected in June 2026.
