David M. Smink, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in sports injuries at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, PA, in Silver Spring, GermanTown, and Rockville, Maryland. Before joining the team at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group in 2005, Dr. Smink graduated with honors from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. There, he was captain and MVP of the hockey team. He also earned the Manstein Family Award for excellence in pre-medical studies and athletics. He then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. There, he served as vice president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society.
After finishing his education, Dr. Smink received specialty training in orthopaedic surgery as chief resident at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Then, he moved to Massachusetts for a sports medicine fellowship at Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital. It was during this fellowship that he was a team physician for the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, and the athletic teams at Harvard University.
At Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, Dr. Smink frequently treats athletic injuries for adults and youth. He often performs joint replacements and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder.
When he isn’t at any of the three clinics, Dr. Smink loves to coach youth hockey teams in the area.

Sohail Shayfer, MD, gradualted summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of California, Irvine. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine with Alpha Omega Alpha hononrs from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the Univeristy of California, Los Angeles.
After medical school, Dr. Shayfer went through his internship and orthopedic residency training through the Tufts University-affiliated hospitals in Boston. He completed two additional fellowships at USC: one in hand surgery through the Joseph H. Boyes program, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine with an emphasis on disorder of shoulder and elbow.
To ensure that his patients receive the latest treatments and care techniques, Dr. Shayfer underwent stringent board testing. He’s currently board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and member of the California Orthopaedic Association.
Patients of Dr. Shayfer praise his compassionate bedside manner and his ability to provide the utmost kindness during each visit. Dr. Shayfer is known for offering comprehensive solutions, caring for patients from the early diagnostic stages, all the way through post-treatment or postoperative periods.
