Dr. Joel Buchalter has been in practice since 1988, and with his lifelong professional partner, Dr. Joel Buchalter, is a founding and managing partner of Somers Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Group. DANIEL B. BUCHALTER, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive hip, knee, and shoulder replacement, Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, as well as complex primary and revision hip, knee, and shoulder reconstruction. 

  Dr. Buchalter completed his joint replacement fellowship at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the #1 ranked orthopedic hospital in the nation, where he was awarded the inaugural Paul M. Pellicci, MD Clinical Excellence Award by the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement faculty at HSS in recognition of his outstanding clinical skills and patient care.   He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital (LOH), the largest orthopedic residency program in the country, where he was appointed Executive-Chief Resident by the orthopedic faculty and his peers in recognition of his leadership skills and where he was awarded the Senior Resident Teaching Award by his peers. As one of two graduates of the NYU LOH 6-year, Clinician-Scientist Training Program, he was additionally awarded the Senior Resident Research Award for excellence in his performance of basic science research.   Dr. Buchalter earned his M.D. from the prestigious NYU Grossman School of Medicine where he graduated in 3 years as part of their accelerated MD Pathway, following his undergraduate studies in Biology at Cornell University where he graduated with research and Latin honors.   At every stage in his career, Dr. Buchalter has received awards and honors in recognition of his clinical, research, teaching, and leadership skills. A recipient of multiple orthopedic research grants, he has made large contributions to the orthopedic literature, having authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and having presented his work at national and international orthopedic meetings among the world’s thought leaders in orthopedics.   Dr. Buchalter is skilled in performing a range of advanced orthopedic procedures, including hip, knee, and shoulder replacements. He utilizes the most advanced robotic, computer, and patient-specific technologies and uses minimally invasive approaches for his joint replacements, including the direct anterior, bikini incision, Superior Transverse Atraumatic Reconstruction (STAR), and subvastus knee approaches. Dr. Bloome, a native Houstonian, graduated from St. John’s School where he excelled in academics and athletics, and was also an accomplished drummer. He ran track at Emory University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After medical school at the University of Texas—Southwestern in Dallas, and residency at the University of New Mexico, he came back to Houston to make it his home again. His proudest accomplishment in life, however, is his family – his beautiful wife and three children. In his spare time, he can be found coaching their sports teams or taking them fishing.
