Robert G. “Bo” Lewis, MD is the founder of Coastal Shoulder Surgery & Sports Medicine and has been specializing in shoulder surgery since 2006.  Dr. Lewis is a board-certified, fellowship-trained shoulder surgeon specializing in arthroscopic shoulder surgery & Sports Medicine.

Although a specialist in Orthopaedic arthroscopy, Dr. Lewis’ has his roots in business.  He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration & Risk Management.  Following a couple of years of real-world business experience working in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Lewis obtained his medical degree at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine.  He completed his general surgery internship and Orthopaedic residency at the Medical College of Georgia and then went on to obtain advanced training in shoulder surgery completing his fellowship in shoulder surgery at McCluskey Orthopaedic Surgery.

Prior to establishing Coastal Shoulder Surgery & Sports Medicine, Dr. Lewis was the founder of Columbus Shoulder Surgery & Sports Medicine, former co-director of the St. Francis Orthopaedic Institute Shoulder service line and director of the St. Francis Orthopaedic Institute Sports Medicine service line.

Having performed greater than 10,000 arthroscopic procedures in thousands of patients, he has established his expertise in arthroscopic surgeries, and in particular the shoulder.  His most common shoulder procedures include rotator cuff repair, labral repairs, biceps tenodesis and superior capsular reconstructions.  He and his anesthesia team, have championed a new approach of shoulder surgery without general anesthesia.

His practice also encompasses a variety of sports medicine procedures treating common injuries of the elbow, hip and knee.  Dr. Lewis’ surgical skills also include all-inside arthroscopic ACL reconstructions in the knee, Tommy John procedures in the elbow, and arthroscopic hip procedures.

Dr. Haas is a fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and has authored articles in peer-reviewed publications.

During his school years at the Albuquerque Academy, Dr. Haas excelled in football and baseball. Playing quarterback, he led the Chargers to an undefeated season in 1993 and a district title in 1994. Today, his love of the sport lives on in his role as head coach for the JV team at Albuquerque Academy.

Matthew Cobb, DPM, is a board-certified podiatric specialist at Albuquerque Associated Podiatrists in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is certified in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery and has specialty training in treating pediatric patients.

Dr. Cobb developed an interest in treating lower extremity injuries while playing soccer in high school and at college in Georgia. After college, he moved west to attend medical school at the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California, where he graduated with honors in 2005. 

Dr. Cobb completed his residency at Kaiser Permanente’s intensive San Francisco Bay Area Foot and Ankle Residency Program, where he was a co-resident with Zachary Haas, DPM. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola University of Chicago, Dr. Mahmood decided to take a year to complete a Masters in Public Health from Benedictine University to equip him with a better understanding of a different viewpoint of medicine. From here, he completed his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine (formerly known as Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine). He then completed a three-year surgical residency at Jesse Brown VA in Chicago, specializing in foot and ankle surgery where he served as chief resident. During his residency, he presented peer-reviewed abstracts at multiple surgical and wound care conferences. His research won an award at the Symposium for Advanced Wound Care in 2018.

He then completed a three-year surgical residency at Jesse Brown VA in Chicago, specializing in foot and ankle surgery where he served as chief resident. During his residency, he presented peer-reviewed abstracts at multiple surgical and wound care conferences. His research won an award at the Symposium for Advanced Wound Care in 2018. 

Dr. Mahmood has board qualifications in the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in Forefoot/Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle. 

When Dr. Mahmood isn’t a force of change in podiatry, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids. He is a car aficionado and loves to teach his kids everything he knows about cars. He also enjoys surrounding himself with friends and family and hosting gatherings. He is known to be an avid basketball player and an encyclopedia of trivial facts. What drives him in life is his passion for meeting people and creating lasting relationships.
