CHART OF THE WEEK

Calling all dentists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and mental health service providers: many people report plans to seek healthcare in these areas with their tax refunds this year. Tebra surveyed 1,000 Americans to investigate how they plan to use tax refunds to help with medical expenses. Our findings revealed that over 1 in 4 people surveyed have used their tax returns for medical bills — and over 1 in 6 plan to use this year’s return to pay off medical bills.
Additionally, nearly 1 in 10 people surveyed plan to invest their tax refunds in elective surgeries, with the top procedures being cosmetic dentistry, facial fillers, and LASIK eye surgery.
With many Americans relying on tax refunds to cover essential expenses, including healthcare — and many having put off medical care during the pandemic — providers may see an increase in patients in the months ahead.
