My son had an infected ingrown toenail. He’s 9 years old, autistic, non speaking, etc. The doctor and his assistant were great. He was friendly, knowledgeable, quick, and willing to work with us to get my son’s situation taken carShow moree of. This was not an easy task because my son is really big for his age and strong. Since my son was very nervous we had to hold him down for a few seconds so he wouldn’t move. We needed to keep everyone involved safe. We prepared a few days in advance by explaining what was probably going to happen during the procedure and we also watched a few videos (he found them fascinating up until it was his turn to get it done). He does not like surprises, he likes to be aware of what will happen during any procedure. Everything worked out in the end and my son is now in the healing process. My son was not traumatized by us holding him down, he was back to his usual happy self within a few minutes. He understood that this procedure needed to be done for him to feel better. The ingrown toenail was causing him a great deal of pain. We’re grateful for the patience and support we received.

Robert Sheffey, DPM, is a highly experienced podiatrist at Chicagoland Foot and Ankle, serving patients at the practice locations in the Mount Greenwood and Portage Park areas of Chicago, as well as Orland Park and New Lenox, Illinois.
A native Ohioan, Dr. Sheffey attended Ohio State University in Columbus for his undergraduate degree. He then attended the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, where he earned his medical degree. He completed a three-year podiatric medicine and surgery residency at the NCVA/St. Joseph’s Hospital, also in Chicago. His training focused on both forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive procedures, along with basic podiatric medicine.
Dr. Sheffey specializes in the treatment of conditions affecting the feet and ankles. He believes that healthy feet play an important role in a healthy body and works hard to help his patients live a life free of pain and discomfort caused by foot and ankle disorders.

My son has a complex medical history and this was my third opinion that I had to seek out for something another physician stated would require surgery. Dr. Sheffey took the time to go over my son's medical history. Take new Xrays and make a plan of care that didn't require surgery. His explanation for everything was understandable and he answered all the additional questions I had.
