Dr. Shapiro has been the Chicago Center principal investigator for several key clinical trials for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity. He has also been invited to speak internationally on retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric retinal diseases. He has edited two books, contributed many chapters, and authored more than 100 scientific articles. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Life Fellow of American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO). Dr. Shapiro is also a member of the Association of Pediatric Retina Specialists, the International Congress-Ocular Oncology, and the ISERG.

John Galasso, MD, PhD of Retina Consultants Ltd., with offices in Des Plaines, Lisleand and Yorkville , Illinois, attended The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He earned his medical degree and a doctorate in Neuroscience at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
After receiving his medical degree, he completed his internship at Northwestern University, followed by ophthalmology residency at Loyola University Medical Center. Daniel Tepper, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and practices comprehensive ophthalmology with a focus on advanced cataract surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. He sees patients at Wicker Park Eye Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Tepper received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in the biological sciences from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He then completed his medical training in 1991 at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, where he graduated with honors and was recognized for his clinical research in ophthalmology.
After completing his ophthalmology residency at Tulane, Dr. Tepper was invited to join the school’s medical staff, where he taught surgical skills to ophthalmology residents. In 1997, he returned to practice in his hometown of Chicago.
Dr. Tepper is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He actively supports the Blind Service Association as a prior board member and has several society memberships, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology, and the Chicago Ophthalmological Society.
Since his teenage years, Dr. Tepper has been an avid proponent of utilizing proper nutrition and fitness to prevent disease, and he frequently integrates nutritional information into the care of his patients.

Michael Savitt, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist at North Shore Glaucoma Center & Eye Physicians. He provides expert eye care at the office in Libertyville, Illinois. Dr. Savitt chose ophthalmology so that he could take care of people and one of their most cherished senses, their eyesight.
After graduating from Rush Medical College (Rush University) in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Savitt went on to complete his residency at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He returned to Chicago for his glaucoma fellowship training at the University of Illinois Hospital’s Eye and Ear Infirmary (IEEI).
Dedicated to his profession, Dr. Savitt is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO). He is the former president of the Chicago Glaucoma Society (CGS).
