Umar Burney MD, MBA is the founding and managing partner at Orthopaedic Specialists of Dallas. He is dual board-certified in general orthopaedics and sports medicine surgery.
Dr. Burney was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His parents were both in the teaching profession and taught the importance of learning and education. Living abroad during high school, he had the unique opportunity to graduate with a secondary education certification from the University of Cambridge in England.
He returned to the University of Wisconsin in Madison to complete his undergraduate degree in medical microbiology and immunology with a special interest in communicative diseases of the third world.
Dr. Burney attended Saint George's University School of Medicine in True Blue, Grenada, and joined the Iota Epsilon Alpha International Medical Honors Society his sophomore year. He then completed his internship and orthopaedic surgical residency at Louisiana State University Shreveport, where he received several awards for excellence in basic science research and anatomy.
After graduating from LSU, Dr. Burney completed a sports medicine and joint replacement fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Leland Winston and Dr. Thomas Clanton at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Burney has served on numerous committees throughout his career. His current roles include Joint Replacement Director and Vice Chair of the Board of Managers at Texas Health Surgery Center of Rockwall. His primary focus is sports medicine and joint replacement.
Dr. Burney is married to Nazlee, an elementary educator, and they share three children. He enjoys philanthropy, family time, traveling, running, and soccer in his spare time.
Kushal Patel, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists of Dallas, located in Rockwall, Wylie, Forney, and Terrell, Texas.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Dr. Patel studied at Baylor University in Waco and received a Bachelor of Arts. He subsequently attended Texas A&M School of Medicine in Bryan, graduating with honors. While there, he was accepted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and awarded the James A. Knight Leadership in Medicine award.
Dr. Patel continued his aspirations of orthopaedic surgery, completing his residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas.
Dr. Patel then embarked on the most influential stage of his professional career—a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship in Denver, Colorado. He trained under renowned mentors there, learning arthroscopic surgery and molding his professional outlook as a sports medicine surgeon.
From treating Division I athletes to world-class athletes training in Colorado, Dr. Patel developed the appreciation and expectations of returning athletes to the highest level of performance. Furthermore, he was trained in minimally invasive surgical procedures and strives to bring the latest technology to treating his patients.
When not focusing on his professional career, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, aged 7 and 9. Together, they enjoy traveling and hiking. In fact, the family has hiked extensively in Colorado, Zion National Park, and Sedona.
Danilo ‘Dan’ Volpini, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists of Dallas, located in Rockwall, Wylie, Forney, and Terrell, Texas. He was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and moved to Dallas, Texas, at the age of 17. Growing up, Dr. Volpini had a strong passion for sports, especially soccer. He graduated from North Mesquite High School, where he played on the varsity soccer team during his junior and senior years. Dr. Volpini then went on to attend the University of North Texas and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biology.
Dr. Volpini earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Volpini chose to stay in San Antonio, where he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency. He completed his training with a sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship. He was under the guidance of the renowned doctors Felix H. Savoie III, MD, and Larry Field, MD, at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.
Dr. Volpini is married to Kelley, a Dallas native and Texas Women's University graduate. In his free time, Dr. Volpini enjoys practicing jiu-jitsu, reading, and traveling.
