Typical candidates are people seeking alternatives to mainstream orthopedic care. Many of our patients are told surgery is their only option. While surgery can be necessary, about 80-90% of what we treat doesn’t require it.
For example, someone with a ligament tear might be told to try rest, bracing, or steroid injections before considering surgery. However, regenerative orthopedics can often help them avoid surgery entirely by using the body's natural healing mechanisms.
We frequently see patients with chronic, non-healing injuries or conditions like osteoarthritis who want to avoid or delay joint replacements. Younger patients especially appreciate this as a bridge or even a long-term alternative to surgery.
Compared to other regions, Denver has a higher percentage of overuse injuries due to the active lifestyle here. We treat weekend warriors, older adults staying active, and athletes dealing with chronic tendon or ligament issues.
In more sedentary regions, we saw more severe arthritis due to obesity and inactivity. In Colorado, we focus more on injuries related to activity and early arthritis in active individuals.
Absolutely. Many of our patients want to avoid long recovery times and get back to skiing or running quickly. Our treatments often require only a third to half the recovery time of surgery. Plus, surgery comes with serious risks like infection, rejection of implants, and even life-threatening complications.
With joint replacements, you’re essentially out of options if the surgery doesn’t work. We provide a less invasive path that still supports healing and function.
Patient education is critical. Some patients come in well-researched, while others only have a vague idea of what regenerative orthopedics involves.
We spend 90 minutes in the initial visit, including history, a physical exam, and ultrasound scanning. Beyond procedures, we focus heavily on educating patients about their condition, treatment options, and what to expect before and after care.
Every patient gets a personalized treatment plan that includes physical therapy. We work closely with a network of skilled physical therapists familiar with our protocols.
We also offer adjunct treatments like shockwave therapy and recommend supplements for tendon and ligament healing. It’s a comprehensive approach to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Experience and training are key. Many providers offer regenerative treatments but may not have the necessary expertise. Some larger orthopedic practices only “dabble” in regenerative medicine, often relying on mid-level providers with limited training.
I've been practicing regenerative medicine since 2008. It’s my passion and primary focus. With fewer than 2,000 doctors in the U.S. specializing in this at a high level, it’s important to research a provider’s background, training, and treatment protocols carefully.
