He completed medical school at The University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to complete postgraduate training at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Parkland Memorial Hospital, both in Dallas.
During his training, he advanced his knowledge of obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, and infertility, with a special focus on hormones.

Dr. Riegel focused on hormone treatments starting early in his career.
