About Dr. James Barrett, MD

Dr. Barrett attended Virginia Tech for his undergraduate degree, studying biochemistry. He earned his medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. 

Dr. Barrett’s treatment philosophy is one of empowering the patient: “Patients have the right to be heard and to partner with me to create a treatment plan appropriate for their individual needs and situation”.  His clinical interests are primary care, preventative medicine and LGBT health.

What Dr. Barrett loves about being a physician: “Working with my patients and the challenges they bring to us.”

When Dr. Barrett isn’t seeing patients, he enjoys languages, travel and sports.
