I recommend Dr. Giles and her team to everyone I meet struggling with treatment resistant depression (TRD). Dr. Giles is committed to innovative strategies to help conquer and thinks outside the box to find something that works. MShow morey experience combining IV ketamine with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) was the right solution to get me closer to full remission of symptoms. My anxiety is much lower and I'm closer to remission than I have been in 2 years! I'm close to the end of TMS treatment and I'd say I'm at least 85% better and I'm optimistic that I'll get to 100% as the treatment continues to work and as I continue intensive therapy and implement a healthier lifestyle to augment the treatment. Before treatment, I didn't have the motivation to make the changes needed to feel better. Her staff is wonderful and I feel so well cared for. To the point where I'll miss going in for TMS treatment each day! Highly, highly recommend!

Karen Giles, MD, MS is a Board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Interventional Psychiatry and Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy. She is passionate about treatment resistant mental health conditions and cares for patients at Breakthru Psychiatric Solutions in Sandy Springs, Georgia, a suburb north of Atlanta.
Dr. Giles obtained a Master's degree in molecular neuroscience from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Sciences studying neurodegenerative diseases. She then attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she was accepted into the rigorous Medical-Scientist Training Program, which consisted of four years of basic, translational, and clinical scientific research in addition to four years of medical school. Dr. Giles completed her four-year psychiatry residency training at Emory University School of Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident. She maintains her connection to Emory as an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and as a member of the Emory-Healthcare Network.
As an interventionalist, Dr. Giles approaches psychiatric conditions by targeting brain circuits through neuromodulation and fast-acting alternatives to more traditional mental health pharmacotherapies. She is certified in administering ketamine and esketamine by the Integrative Psychiatric Institute, and is performing transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as an active member of the Clinical TMS Society.
Dr. Giles is certified in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). She will offer MDMA- and Psilocybin- Assisted Psychotherapy as soon as they are legal in Georgia. She maintains relationships with clinics in Oregon and Colorado.
Dr. Giles takes a comprehensive and collaborative approach with every patient and utilizes interventional modalities along with medication and lifestyle optimization.
