The appt with Amy Duncan went great. The annoying part was the phone number you have to call and they they call you in. The receptionist wasnt very friendly and seemed overworked. I know its the protocol because of covid amd im juShow morest hoping that the front desk experience improves because it kind of sets the tone for the rest of the visit. Amy Duncan was great!
As always, the team was great, and NP Duncan is so understanding and attentive, which is rare these days. She was thorough, offered excellent suggestions, and even referred for second opinion so that I would feel comfortable with Show morethe diagnosis. This is the first Neuro clinic to give my daughter actual hope to fix her pain...thank you so much NP Duncan!
Kelly Averill, MD, is a compassionate and dedicated pediatric epilepsy & neurology specialist at Texas Pediatric Specialties and Family Sleep Center in the Lockhill-Selma area of San Antonio, Texas. She truly enjoys helping patients with rare neurologic conditions and helping them through their complex medical problems.
Dr. Averill received her medical education from the University of Texas’s McGovern Medical School before pursuing a residency program in pediatric neurology.
With a passion for pediatric care, Dr. Averill is board-certified in pediatric epilepsy & neurology. She specializes in intractable epilepsy, and uses advanced treatments such as Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and CBD oil to help patients find relief for their symptoms. In addition, she has special interest in neurocutaneous syndromes such as tuberous sclerosis, as well as pediatric stroke.
She is also an active member of The State of Texas Newborn Screening Program, and can guide parents of infants who screen positive for X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) and spinal muscular atrophy through the process of diagnosis. She offers gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy treatment.
For your infant or child to receive the best care possible, Dr. Averill believes it’s important to develop strong relationships with other physicians and specialists in the community. With each patient, she works hard to develop a custom care plan that suits their unique needs and helps guide them toward a path to improved health.
When she's not helping patients, Dr. Averill enjoys hiking and exploring the state park. She also loves spending quality time with her two pets, a dog named Porkchop and a cat named Josie.

Dr. Averill has been instrumental in my sons recovery . From our first meeting in the NICU to every single appointment , she’s always given us the best advice and guidance towards helping out little guy get to where he is today . Ms. Duncan is so professional and allows you to verbalize your childs needs. So far she has addressed every concern we have had when it comes to ny daughter. Really happy with the care she gives.
