Tarak Patel, MD, is a caring and compassionate pediatric pulmonologist and a vital part of the team at Texas Pediatric Specialties and Family Sleep Center. He’s deeply touched to have served so many families in the Alamo Heights, Shavano Park, and Lockhill-Selma areas of San Antonio, Texas, area.
Dr. Patel has deep roots in Texas. He began his studies at the University of Texas at Austin, earning his degree in biology. He then studied medicine at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock.
He finished his clinical training in El Paso, where he enjoyed expanding his Spanish language skills and narrowed his area of focus to pediatric lung disease, and asthma in particular. He went on to complete his training in pediatric medicine at the University of Texas at Houston. His dedication to continuing education is exemplified through a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, also in Houston.
Throughout his studies, Dr. Patel found a great deal of fulfillment in working with various charitable organizations and in volunteer roles in medical clinics. He also continues to pursue ongoing education through lectures in a wide range of pediatric conditions. That breadth of knowledge has informed and shaped his patient care in countless ways.
Dr. Patel treats each patient as though they were one of his own children. The families that entrust him with their medical needs appreciate that personable approach and are comforted that their children are in the best of hands.

Wonderful clinic, practice, and clinicians!
They're always 30 minutes or more behind. So expect to wait. The TV in the waiting room is way to low for anyone to hear so why even have it if you're going to have kids just watch a movie with no sound. Make it make sense. Dr. Patel is nice but he kept getting my kiddos name wrong. Then called her a completely different name then her own, my kids name starts with an A and he called her a name with an H. Was weird not even remotely close like they didn't even sound alike. He may just have way too many patients. Either way he's a good Dr and nice but there is room for improvement.

She doesn't seem to understand the connection between nutrition / specific B vitamins on neurological issues
We are so grateful to have such a wonderful doctor in our daughter’s care. Dr. Averill is one of a kind and takes her time to listen to our concerns. I know she must be very busy seeing so many patients but she is amazing!
Dr Hansen is an amazing Dr. She listens very well to her patients and thier concerns. Dr Hansen goes above and beyond tk make sure her patients are receiving the best possible solution to their needs. She is very professional and caring. I truly enjoy her practice.

1st time to meet Dr. Hansen after years with Dr. Grunspan. Everything went well and I felt very comfortable with Dr. Hansen, so 1st impressions were excellant. Good visit and will be back for the next appointment. I would highly recommend Dr. Hansen. If you have experience with Dr. Grunspan you will like Dr. Hansen.
Dr Averill ensures we understand what is happening. We always leave her office with all our questions answered. I always feel supported by her and her office. She truly is invested in our child.

Dr. Patel has been my first daughter’s doctor for the past 3yrs now and he is so caring and knowledgeable about his patients. I will be taking my second daughter to see him for her Asthma treatment because I am happy with his level of care and understanding.

Staff is not very good with giving information and are a bit rude
