She has spent most of her career as a school psychologist in North Carolina public schools and was recognized as School Psychologist of the Year (2025).

Dr. Perkins has extensive experience in conducting psychological assessments as well as therapy. Colleagues and clients alike find her to be open, warm and genuine, with a sense of humor and contagious laugh. A flexible person-centered style is utilized in her therapy services and a practical, solution-focused approach when conducting evaluations. In addition to psychological assessments and therapy, Dr. Perkins is available to speak or consult on a number of psychological and mental health topics. She has particular interests in topics related to older adults, mood disorders, domestic violence, bariatric surgery, caregiver burnout, and most anything to do with mental health.
Dr. Exum-Calhoun’s mission is to improve the lives of the families with whom she works. Truly embracing the notion that “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” she seeks to work with all members of the “Village” who might be involved in supporting members of a family. She utilizes a variety of techniques to improve individual functioning and strengthen family relations.
