Katherine Kim, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist dedicated to excellent patient care. She sees patients at her own private practice, Katherine Kim, MD, Gastroenterology, in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
Originally from Irvine, California, she did her undergraduate studies at UCLA, where she majored in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics, minored in English, and graduated with honors. She first became interested in gastroenterology when she was a premed at Johns Hopkins doing a Masters thesis on early detection of pancreatic cancer. She was inspired by her amazing research mentors who were gastroenterologists and she was set on becoming a gastroenterologist ever since.
Dr. Kim subsequently did her medical school training at the University of California, Irvine, her internal medicine residency at Icahn School of Medicine in New York City, and her gastroenterology fellowship training at Cedars-Sinai, where the gastroenterology division is ranked #2 in the nation by U.S., News. She was fortunate to train with world-renowned experts in IBS, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, and pancreaticobiliary conditions. She has published numerous papers in top GI journals, and she is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Kim was previously a GI hospitalist at PIH Whittier for three years, where she covered a 400-bed hospital. She treated acute gastrointestinal conditions such as GI bleeds and helped patients navigate serious diagnoses such as cirrhosis and colon cancer. Dr. Kim found the work to be very meaningful and rewarding, but her ultimate goal was to build her own private practice.
One of her guiding philosophies is that it is a privilege to care for her patients and to be trusted with their care. She has received the Superdoctors Award and has been recognized as a Top LA Doctor by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
Outside of work, Dr. Kim prioritizes her own health- she has strong personal interests in wellness, nutrition, and meditation. She enjoys staying active with yoga, boxing and pilates. She enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
