He grew up in the south suburbs and completed his medical school, medical residency, and gastroenterology fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. While most students coveted the “private practice” residencies, Dr. Mehta elected to do rotations at Cook County Hospital to expand his exposure to various types of pathology.
As a University of Chicago faculty member, Dr. Mehta is active in the training and education of residents and fellows. Dr. Mehta has been extensively involved in the endoscopic training for the NorthShore gastroenterology fellowship program. Teaching has been a way of giving back.
Dr. Mehta is a firm believer in patient education and patient participation in health care decisions. He will typically lay out his thinking on a specific case, the available options, and help the patient to arrive at a treatment decision using a team approach.
