Dr. Jameel Shareef joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg in October of 2023. Dr. Shareef received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Kent Hospital/Brown University in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Dr. Shareef is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is proficient in the diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures of upper endoscopy (EGD),
variceal banding, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, video capsule endoscopy and interpretation of Fibroscan (elastography) of the liver. Dr. Shareef’s practice encompasses the spectrum of general gastroenterological disease, including colon cancer screening, anemia/bleeding of the GI tract, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), irritable bowel disease (IBD) and liver disease.

Internist Norman Chang, MD, is president and medical director of Commonwealth Internal Medicine in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he and his team have been welcoming men, women, and children aged 16 and over for the past 21 years.
Born and raised in Albany, Georgia, Dr. Chang received his Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He obtained his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, after which he completed his residency training in internal medicine at the Medical Center of Delaware (currently known as Christiana Care Health Systems) in Newark/Wilmington, Delaware.
Dr. Chang has been in practice as an internist in the Fredericksburg area with Commonwealth Internal Medicine since 1998. Dr. Chang had provided medical care to both patients in his outpatient practice as well as in the hospital setting until 2009 when he made the decision to devote his clinical practice solely to the care of adult patients in the outpatient setting. Dr. Chang also works part-time at the Mary Washington Wound Healing Center, where he has been a panel physician since 2007.

Narayan Dharel, MD, PhD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg – which has locations in Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia – in July 2015 after completing a fellowship in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Dharel completed his residency training at Cornell University affiliate Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in New York. Prior to moving to Virginia, he worked for four years as an attending physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School at Boston.
Dr. Dharel is triple Board Certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology. Dr. Dharel is proficient in the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including EGD; esophageal dilation; screening, surveillance, and diagnostic colonoscopy; hemorrhoid banding; luminal stenting; video capsule endoscopy; and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of Barrett's. His areas of interest include colon cancer screening and prevention, GERD, Barrett's, Fatty Liver/NASH, and other liver diseases.
Dr. Dharel has been deeply involved in scientific research, has presented in national and international meetings, received numerous awards, and has authored several original articles, reviews, and book chapters in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology. Dr. Dharel currently serves as the Medical Director of Endoscopy at Mary Washington Hospital and the Medical Director of the Fredericksburg Endoscopy Center in Fredericksburg. He is a visiting faculty member of Virginia Commonwealth University at the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and also serves as a preceptor for the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Dharel was recognized as one of the region's top gastroenterologists by Northern Virginia Magazine in 2020.
Dr. Dharel is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

David Bauder, PA-C, brings over 26 years of diverse medical experience to his role as the Assistant Medical Director and co-founder of Weight Loss and Vitality, located in Manassas, Alexandria, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Gaithersburg, Maryland. Anita Banerjee, MD, FACC, is an experienced cardiology specialist at Premier Cardiac and Vascular in Annandale and Fredericksburg, Virginia. She is a female cardiologist and patient-centered physician who, instead of just prescribing medications, focuses on helping her patients make lifestyle changes to improve heart health.
After securing a scholarship and earning her medical degree from Odessa National Medical University in Odessa, Ukraine, Dr. Banerjee went on to complete her residency training in Internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York. She remained there to complete her fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease, specializing in Non-Invasive Cardiology. She also performed extensive research in Heart Failure under Drs. Family physician Nicholas Tavani, MD, PhD, leads the team at Battlefield Family Medicine & Weight Management. Dr. Tavani earned his Bachelor of Science at the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in 1974. Dr. Tavani recieved his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He then completed his internship in family medicine at Providence Hospital through Georgetown University, followed by his residency in family medicine at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly. Dr. Tavani later obtained his PhD in Biophysics and Physiology at Georgetown University in 1984.
