About Dr. Shain Howard, DO

Shain Howard, D.O.

Trauma Specialist in Las Vegas, NV

Shain L. Howard, DO, is a fellowship-trained Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, proudly serving the Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. He specializes in orthopedic surgery and has a passion for providing preventive health care to patients in need. Dr. Howard returned to Las Vegas to join Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in 2021 after completing his Orthopedic Trauma Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas in San Antonio.

As a Las Vegas native, Dr. Howard has worked in the surrounding Las Vegas area since the age of 15. He welded and fabricated as an iron worker to support his Bachelor's Degree, which he earned in Biological Sciences at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Dr. Howard then attended medical school at Touro University Nevada in Henderson. During this time, he helped organize and participated in medical missions to both Guatemala and Peru. These have been among the most rewarding experiences of his life.

He spent the following five years developing his clinical and surgical skills through the Valley Health System's Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Howard had wide-ranging exposure to sports injuries during this time, including both non-operative and surgical treatments.

After completing his surgical residency, Dr. Howard then elected to pursue additional fellowship training in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Texas — a busy Level I Trauma Center which has played a historic role in orthopedic surgery and is also home to many of the pioneers in the world of orthopedics. His fellowship training included pelvic fractures, acetabular fractures, and polytrauma injuries of the highest severity.

Additionally, Dr. Howard's fellowship training included non-union, malunion, deformity correction, and joint reconstruction in special cases. Coupled with his prior training in sports injuries and basic fracture care, Dr. Howard is equipped to treat a broad range of injuries, from single joint/limb injury to life-threatening polytrauma.

Dr. Howard loves spending time with family, including his wife and daughter. During his spare time, he can regularly be found helping others meet their fitness goals and training competitively alongside them. Dr. Howard enjoys weight-lifting, gymnastics, CrossFit, snowboarding, surfing, and the beach. His understanding of the protective effects of health and fitness (whether an acute traumatic injury, sports injury, or medical ailments in general) is a fundamental tenet of his philosophy.
