Through establishing a patient centered treatment paradigm, I strive to deliver high quality care to my patients, utilizing the current techniques I received from my training. I am especially interested in reconstructive surgery of the lower extremity, wound care, and biomechanics. I earned my degree in Podiatric Medicine at Kent State University – College of Podiatric Medicine and completed my residency training at St. Barnabas hospital in Bronx, NY. I am board certified as well.
Dr. Hyowon Choi was born in South Korea and grew up in Greater Vancouver, BC. She performed in her high school music band as a flutist. She traveled during her high school years to volunteer with orphans in Lima, Peru and with the natives of Heiltsuk Nation in Northern British Columbia. She entered the University of British Columbia with the President’s Entrance Scholarship and the British Columbia Government Scholarship. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Sciences with an emphasis in Ecology and Microbiology. She received her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, where she met her husband, Dr. Czurylo. She completed a three-year surgical residency in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Amita Health St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, IL.
During her residency, she presented peer-reviewed abstracts at multiple surgical and wound care conferences. She also visited Instituto Nacional de Pediatria in Mexico City for a medical mission trip to perform pediatric limb deformity correction surgeries with the Chicago Lower Extremity Surgical Foundation. She is a member of both the American and Washington Podiatric Medical Associations, as well as the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She has board certification in the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and qualifications from the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
Dr. Choi previously practiced in Surrey, BC at the Achilles Foot Health Center as a former member of the College of Podiatric Surgeons of BC. In her spare time, she enjoys snowboarding, camping, yoga, and hiking with her husband and two children. She is happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest and eager to serve the Whatcom community.
Michael Czurylo, DPM, is a board-certified podiatrist serving the community of Bellingham, Washington. At Northwest Foot and Ankle Institute, Dr. Czurylo provides comprehensive, fully personalized care with the goal of getting patients back on their feet.
Dr. Czurylo was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. He participated in high school wrestling and baseball. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and was named to the Dean's List. He then received his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, where he was awarded the Scholl Merit and Goren Scholarships.
While at Scholl College, he met his wife, Dr. Choi, and they completed their residencies together in Chicago. He completed a three-year surgical residency in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and served as Chief Resident. During his residency, he presented peer-reviewed abstracts at multiple surgical and wound care conferences. He was a finalist at the International Post Graduate Research Symposium at the Midwest Podiatry Conference in 2017.
Upon completion of his residency, he decided to move to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to his wife’s family. Dr. Czurylo enjoys watching his Chicago sports teams, playing golf and tennis, exploring hiking trails, and dining at local restaurants.
He is a member of both the American and Washington Podiatric Medical Associations, as well as the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has board certification in the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and qualifications in the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in Forefoot / Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle. He is excited to be a part of the Bellingham community.

Dr. Mark T. Lewis was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and raised in Southern California. He graduated from The University of California, San Diego. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology in 1990. The next two years he worked as a research assistant in Immunopharmacology at one of the leading Cancer Research Centers in the United States. After spending the next year working in the private sector at a pharmaceutical company, Dr. Lewis enrolled in Podiatry school in 1993.
He received his Doctrate of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1997. Dr. Lewis completed 4 years of residency training in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery: two years at The Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles and two years at The Franciscan Foot and Ankle Institute in Seattle. He served the role of chief resident at both residencies.
Dr. Lewis trained with both podiatric and orthopedic surgeons during his residency. He was fortunate to be able to travel internationally to the Philippines and Mexico to perform surgical treatment of complex deformities to the citizens of these countries. After graduating from his residency, Dr. Lewis remained very active in academics and residency training of both podiatric, osteopathic, and allopathic residents. He participated on the residency training committee for many years and was awarded multiple times the instructor of the year award by the residents he trained.
After residency, Drs. Mark and Petrina Lewis founded Northwest Foot and Ankle Center, PS and provided conservative and surgical treatment as members of a large Orthopedic Surgery Practice in Renton, Washington. After leaving the orthopedic practice in 2005, Dr. Lewis continues to practice in Renton focusing on conservative and surgical management of foot and ankle problems. He has a particular interest in podiatric biomechanics, orthotics, sports medicine, heel pain, and regenerative medicine.
Dr. Lewis is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Washington State Podiatric Medical Association.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family. Petrina and I have three children: Zach, Nick, and Alexa. I am an entrepreneur at heart and I love serving as a mentor to others who are passionate in their pursuits of their personal goals. Petrina Lewis, DPM, FACFAS, is a board-certified podiatrist and the founder of Southwest Foot & Ankle Center, providing complete foot and ankle care to people of all ages living in and around Scottsdale, Arizona, and throughout Maricopa County.
Dr. Lewis was born in Texas and lived there until she was five years old before moving to Fremont, California. She began her career pursuits at the University of California, Santa Barbara, earning her Bachelor of Science in biology.
After graduation, Dr. Lewis enrolled at the California College of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California. She excelled in the program, obtaining her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.
Before entering private practice, Dr. Lewis completed a one-year podiatric surgical residency at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and a two-year residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at Healthsouth Green River Surgical Center in Auburn, Washington.
Dr. Lewis takes a patient-centric approach to podiatry. She never rushes consultations and makes time to answer questions and address concerns.
When it comes to treatment, Dr. Lewis embraces the role of an expert guide. She combines healthy lifestyle changes and cutting-edge techniques to relieve foot and ankle pain and enhance mobility.

Joseph Hall, DPM, is an experienced podiatrist who’s been practicing in Mill Creek for over 25 years. He provides outstanding services to patients of all ages. Dr. Hall is board-certified in foot and ankle and rear foot reconstruction surgery and excels at diagnosing and treating patients with conditions ranging from warts and bunions to severe structural abnormalities.
Dr. Hall earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. He completed his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at the Samuel Merritt University College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California. He underwent an extensive 3 year Residency program in San Francisco, California focusing on surgical correction of all aspects of foot and ankle deformities.
Since 1996, Dr. Hall has been in private practice in Mill Creek, Washington. He is the current President of the Washington State Podiatric Medical Association and has served on the board for the past 10 years. He is a past President of the Mill Creek Rotary club and he currently collaborates with Eastside Research Associates in Redmond, Washington, which conducts clinical trials and research to help diabetics get better control of their diabetes and reducing their risk of cardiovascular accidents.
Dr. Hall is co- founder of a non-profit organization called " Pies al Futuro International". This oragnization was formed after he traveled to Gautemala and Nicaragua dedicating his time and surgical skills to correct pediatric congenital foot deformities in these countries.
Dr. Hall is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Yu graduated No.1 in her class from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2019 and completed her residency training at an intensive podiatric foot and ankle medicine and surgery program at Hoboken University Medical Center, where she spent three years training extensively in Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery, Trauma, Sports Medicine, and Diabetic Limb Salvage. She has been in practice in Lynnwood Washington for the past three years at the Alderwood Ankle and Foot Clinic.

Lawrence Maurer, DPM is a podiatric specialist in sports medicine and pediatric care at Washington Foot & Ankle Sports Medicine in Kirkland, Washington.
Dr. Maurer’s academic career began at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He earned his master’s degree in podiatric medicine and surgery at Barry University’s School of Graduate Medical Sciences in Miami Shores, Florida, where he was on the dean’s list for four consecutive years and a repeat recipient of the Podiatric Merit Scholarship and the Fund for Podiatric Medical Education Scholarship. He subsequently received his residency training in the Kentucky Podiatric Surgical Residency Program.
A member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Dr. Maurer has had research published in the leading podiatric journals. He is licensed to practice in Washington state and Kentucky. Dr. Maurer is also a lecturer for the Northwest Podiatric Foundation for Education and Research USA.

In his leisure time, Dr. Maurer is an avid skier, mountain biker, and runner. When he’s not engaged in sports or photography, Dr. Maurer enjoys music as a classically trained pianist and vocalist, as well as spending time with his wife and two children.
Peter M. Vincent, DPM has been an Associate Podiatrist at Washington Foot & Ankle Sports Medicine in Kirkland, Washington since August 2006.
Dr. Vincent specializes in injured athletes who seek to remain active during recovery. Dr. Vincent always explores nonsurgical solutions first. When surgical treatment is the answer to athletic overuse injury and trauma to the foot and ankle, Dr. Vincent is careful to keep medication levels to a minimum throughout the healing process.
He received his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in Boston and a doctorate of podiatric medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, graduating with high honors as a member of the Pi Delta Honors Society. He performed his podiatric surgical residency at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix.
Dr. Vincent maintains strong consultative relationships with the sports medicine professional community in the Greater Seattle area.
