Dr. Michal Zemela is a Chicagoland native, born and raised in the north shore suburb of Northbrook, IL. He earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, laying a strong foundation in the sciences before pursuing his medical training.
He went on to earn his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Rosalind Franklin University/ Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Zemela completed a rigorous Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency at Rush University Medical Center right here in Chicago’s medical district. There, he received comprehensive surgical training across the full spectrum of foot and ankle conditions, working alongside leading specialists throughout the city.
Dr. Zemela is board qualified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, and is an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He brings a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to care, combining evidence-based medicine with a strong focus on patient education and long-term outcomes.
Dr. Zemela speaks fluent Polish and enjoys connecting with patients from all backgrounds. Outside of the office, he loves traveling, especially to visit family in Poland. Dr. Kruse was born with clubbed feet and had to undergo numerous surgeries as a child. Because he spent so much time surrounded by healthcare providers, he had a unique window into podiatric medicine from a young age. Those experiences sparked his interest in medicine.
In 2001, Dr. Kruse earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. He then began a competitive three-year surgical residency. RICHARD J. POWERS, DPM was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and is a graduate of Loyola University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1986, he completed his education in Podiatric Medicine, from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric medicine, and started his post-professional training in a 12-month surgical preceptorship, under the direction of Ronald Cervetti, DPM, in Waterloo, Iowa. Dr. Powers then went on to complete a 12-month surgical residency at Lakeside Community Hospital, under the direction of podiatric author and educator, Dr. Irving Pikscher, DPM, in Chicago.
Dr. Powers has served as a Podiatric Surgical Instructor at Mercy Hospital, Loyola Ambulatory, Oak Brook Surgical Center from 1992 through 2003. He also served as the Residency director of Sacred Heart Hospital from 1998 to 2003.
