Got questions for
Dr. Amy Rein, PHD?
Amy Rein, PhD is a licensed psychologist and the founder of Rein Center, an integrative psychiatry practice based in Iowa City, Iowa. With over 27 years of experience across Vancouver, Miami, the Virgin Islands, and Iowa City, Dr. Rein brings a truly holistic approach to mental health care.
She is licensed to practice psychology in Iowa, Colorado, Florida, New York, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and British Columbia, and works with clients throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Dr. Rein has been offering EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy since 2000, helping clients release emotional patterns and trauma that are stuck and resistant to traditional talk therapy. Many describe a profound sense of relief—often expressing a “WOW” moment when issues that have haunted them for decades are resolved in just a few sessions.
She is a Level 1 Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist, integrating IFS parts work to support deeper insight and self-compassion. In addition, Dr. Rein has completed extensive training in Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy and currently offers Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for individuals facing treatment-resistant conditions. Her KAP work is rooted in safety, preparation, and integration, supporting clients in accessing transformative healing experiences.
Currently, she is training in Somatic Experiencing (SE), a body-based trauma therapy that helps regulate the nervous system and release stored stress and trauma at a somatic level.
Dr. Rein’s therapeutic approach blends psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy with experiential and integrative modalities like EMDR, IFS, KAP, and SE. She draws on her knowledge of functional medicine, nutrition, naturopathy, and Chinese medicine, along with mind-body practices such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. Her completion of several yoga teacher trainings enhances her ability to guide clients in using breathwork, movement, and body awareness as tools for healing and emotional regulation.
Her style is active, collaborative, and goal-oriented—it is rare to hear her simply say “hmm.” She offers practical coping tools, psychoeducation, and consistent feedback. Dr. Rein helps clients identify the root causes of their distress and provides clear explanations of what’s happening, both from a psychological and holistic perspective. Within the first few sessions, she offers insight and a personalized treatment plan, setting the stage for meaningful and lasting change.
She works with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families, treating a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, insomnia, and stress-related conditions. Clients are encouraged to stay engaged between sessions through journaling, meditation, movement, and other integrative practices.
Dr. Rein offers a collection of guided meditations to support anxiety relief, sleep, mindfulness, and pain management. Though the work can be challenging at times, she enjoys having a laugh with her clients and brings warmth, humor, and authenticity to the process—helping them reconnect with joy, clarity, and deeper meaning in their lives.
She is available for intensive treatment sessions for those seeking deeper, accelerated healing over a shorter period of time.

Dr. McCormick is the most knowledgable psychiatrist I have ever dealt with and she is very open and kind.

excellent
Dr. McCormick is insightful and genuinely caring. She is a knowledgeable, out-of the box thinker with a holistic approach. I feel both heard and inspired every time that I see her. Highly recommend her!
Wonderful service and care.
Dr. McCormick has worked tirelessly to manage my weird side effects, while treating debilitating depression, and caring for me as a a whole person, always addressing the full picture.
I’m so grateful for Dr Rein! She has helped me get rid of a lifetime of trauma through her expertise in EMDR! My life would not be the same without her!
Dr. McCormick has been an outstanding asset to my mental health.
Amazing, is an understatement. A very " non - clinical " , welcoming atmosphere upon arrival. Dr.McCormick conveys a very sincere, trusting aura that allows me to be open and honest about myself, and one does not have the feeling of being judged or " pre- diagnosed " . I can definitely, without reservation, recommend seeing Dr.McCormick for helping navigate this not so smooth road of life we travel.
Just from my first appointment -- Dr. McCormick is an incredible doctor! Very holisitic in nature and compassionate. Extremely smart and thorough. i look forward to working with Dr. McCormick more in upcoming sessions.

Successfully writing to address issues of anxiety and depression.
Absolute treasure to find and attentive to an individual's needs with beneficial advice.
Today was my first ever experience with therapy. Even in my first session I felt heard. I'm eager to see how sessions continue to allow me to have tools and strategies to cope with life.
Really listens to me. Pushes me but not too much and consistently checks in during sessions
It has been easy to make my appointment & access forms. I had no problems getting on zoom & my appointment started promptly at the scheduled time. I found my therapist easy to talk to about issues that I have been having. This is a good sign for the first visit.
Shannon is very attentive to my concerns and often asks me to share some experiences that seem to affect me.
Very caring and helpful
Best decision I ever made
Shannon has been excellent and very helpful/supportive. For the first time in a long while I feel I am making progress on the changes and improvements I would like to make as a direct result of Shannon’s guidance.
Shannon is incredible! She allows me to have a safe and open discussion, wherever that might take us! Very thankful.
I wholeheartedly love the safe space Shannon provides me. I am allowed to be my most vulnerable authentic self and she shows up for me without judgment, rather with compassion and understanding. I am provided tools to support me in my transition to a healthy mental space, sharing how the tools are working for me or when I am struggling. I wish everyone had the opportunity to be fully human without judgment and simultaneously be equipped with strategies to help them grow to a healthy and happy state of being.
Of several therapists, Dr. Rein is by far the best. EMDR and the counseling relationship has broken the tight hold that shame has had on my life.
