I think that Dr Wickman is amazing and I am so happy that I was referred to her and I will for sure recommend her to others. But I am not overly thrilled with the office staff. I had a 2:30 appointment with her and as I was checkiShow moreng in a woman rushed in and said that she was here to see Dr Wickman for a 2:45 appointment, after waiting for about 10 minutes the other woman was taken back before me and when I questioned the front desk associates I was told that it was not their problem one of the girls offered to go back and find out what was going on and when she came back out she didn’t bother to explain it to me so when I went up to the desk to ask I was told that they had already put the other lady in the exam room and if they took her out now they would have to re sanitize the room and they were not going to do that so I would just have to wait. There was a gentleman sitting in the waiting room when I got there and we started talking and he also had a 2:30 appointment with Dr Wickman and was there before I was so he should have been taken back before me, then a young man sitting there said that he had a 2:45 appointment with the same Dr. So basically the office is double booking which is really not Ok. As it is an appointment lasts no longer then 15 min so four patients an hour would be ok but it appears that they are booking 8 an hour. I understand that Dr’s time is important but Sonia the patients. I went to pick up my new prescription glasses yesterday and left without having them adjusted to my face so that I could make it on time to my appointment with Dr Wickman and I showed up 10 min early,to then wait an additional 21 min. Which may not have bothered me if I didn’t see the other woman come in 5 min after me and to be taken back at my exact appointment time when her appointment was supposed to be 15 after mine. I would just ask that the office staff be more careful about taking the correct person back at their scheduled time and not make excuses like “well she checked in before you” when I know for a fact that this was not the case
I wld say a 4.5 if i cld...Very clinical visit today, would give it a 5, but all of my other visits had been so stellar, i know it was just an off day. But my questions were answered in full. I think it was an end of the day visitShow more and there was a lot going on with me as well. She handled/answer all of my questions and was able to get me a pamphlet I didn't have before for my upcoming neck surgery in about 2 wks. I know she's the best spinal/neck surgeon in the Santa Barbara and surrounding areas and came highly recommended. I'm so thankful my insurance works with her Solvang office, as it does not work with her Tax TD through her SB office. I was referred to her by one of my other highly qualified specialists who I would defer to about any possible need that I have. I have now heard her name everywhere and feel no hesitation about having her be my surgeon. Today was just an off day, and there were plenty of things I needed to discuss with her prior to surgery as I had recently had a setback that hopefully will be resolved by surgery date. I'd you think you need a 2nd opinion, get it with her, but if you're new at deciding, make your appointment here with Dr. Amy Wickman. You will be in the best hands possible. K.M. Scarfe

Amy Wickman, MD?
Amy Wickman, MD, is an experienced spine specialist with the team at Alta Orthopaedics, with locations in Solvang, Santa Barbara, and Oxnard, California. In the midst of the complexity of spine surgery, Dr. Wickman puts patients and their families in the foreground. Having dealt with sick family members as well as with her own orthopaedic issues, she knows how important it is for patients to feel validated, to feel that they are heard, and for the doctor to be able to see the situation from the patient’s perspective.
Dr. Wickman became a doctor because she wanted to help people have better health. She completed her undergraduate degree in urban planning at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, before graduating with her medical degree from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago. It was there that she developed her love of spine surgery during her five-year residency, training at a Level 1 Trauma Center, the Hines VA, and the Shriners Hospital for Children. She dealt with everything from traumatic spine and spinal cord injuries to treating children with scoliosis and adults with degenerative conditions such as herniated discs.
Her education and training in orthopaedic surgery allows her to see issues from a broader perspective, to look at the whole person and identify problems that may not be as obvious as they appear on an MRI. At the same time, she avoids surgery when there are other equally effective solutions.
When it comes to the spine, there may be more than one way to handle a problem. Options may depend on goals and lifestyles as well as medical issues. Dr. Wickman takes time to make sure her patients are aware of all those aspects so that each individual finds the best solution for the circumstances. When possible, she includes family members in decisions about surgery and hospital care. In addition to her busy practice at Alta Orthopaedics, Dr. Wickman is an on-call surgeon for the Emergency Room.
Dr. Wickman is a self-described “city girl” born and raised in Chicago. Now she loves the year-round healthy Santa Barbara lifestyle and understands how important it is for her patients to get back to the activities they enjoy. In college, she was captain of her rowing team. Today, she remains active by running and hiking. In addition to spending time outdoors, Dr. Wickman’s great joy in life is her family – her husband and two children.

I felt very secure with the doctor
She has successfully operated on and relieved me of pain three times. As far as I am concerned she is the expert and approachable Goddess of orthopedic surgeons.
Straightforward and clear with recommendations and reasoning.
Professional and organized through every step starting with admission check-in, exam, care through final checkout. I felt like I was in good hands throughout the process. Dr Wickman herself was thorough in her consideration of my medical issues and offered well thought out options. This was my first visit with Dr Wickman and I can highly recommend her as a physician and the office as a competent team in assisting her
Excellent service and excellent doctor !
Very supportive and stays until you questions are answered
Dr. Wickman is a very caring, thorough, professional and talented surgeon. It’s still early after my surgery, but it has all gone very well. My pain is a fraction of what it was before the surgery, it should only get better from here. I would highly recommend Dr. Wickman and her staff at Alta Orthopedic.
Very clear instructions for pending surgery.

Everyone was friendly, and efficient. Dr. Wickman was kind, knowledgeable, and caring.
Loved Dr. Wickman and Matthew her PA. Office staff very kind, particularly X-ray tech Maxine. Only complaint was long wait times both in the office and long wait for an appointment, however I will tolerate that for the expertise!
