Reception / personal messaging and call backs are excellent.(contact return times) The Doctor is concise, efficient, and caring. While commanding a deep medical knowledge, he also maintains the ability to instruct staff, keep a clean office, treat patients with kindness and respect. And is on time with the delivery of services. I am thankful for the medical support staff at the Veterans Administration but especially for community care from River City Family Medicine. They helped return me to health and during the pandemic no less!
Even though i was a little early for my appointment, my wait to see Dr. A was very short. My interaction with staff and particularly the Nurse out front plus the Nurse that does the lab/blood draws was very pleasant and professionShow moreal. As always I found Dr. A to be professional as well as upbeat, attentive to my needs, answering questions and continuing to encourage me to lose weight without badgering me about it. These maintenance appointments are always a positive experience. My only request for change would be to receive my lab results and billing via an email attachment rather than “the portal”. Sorry I just don't like all the log in and password stuff. Thanks to all for your work your competence and friendly interaction with me.
Anthony G. Avitabile Jr., DO, is a highly skilled and compassionate physician who provides exceptional health care to his patients at RiverCity Family Medicine, PLLC, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Dr. Avitabile graduated with a Bachelor of Science from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California, where he also received a Master of Science in microbiology. He earned his medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, where he appeared on the National Dean’s List and was inducted into the Sigma Sigma Phi national osteopathic honor fraternity.
Dr. Avitabile went on to a transitional internship at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and spent the next ten years on active duty in the US Army Medical Corps. In the Army, he achieved the rank of major and earned the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He maintains a deep appreciation for the opportunity to care for his fellow veterans. After his military service, Dr. Avitabile completed a residency in family practice in an East Tennessee State University program in Chattanooga, and he stayed in the city to begin practicing medicine.
Dr. Avitabile is board-certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians. His patients and his peers regard him for his extensive knowledge of and focus on diabetes. He’s passionate about the well-being of his patients and believes in treating them like they’re his own family.
Dr. Avitabile has the privilege of sharing his love for medicine with his family. His wife of nearly 30 years is the practice manager at RiverCity Family Medicine, PLLC, and works alongside him daily. Together, they have four amazing children and one beautiful grandchild, and they look forward to having more grandchildren in the future. Their children have followed in their footsteps, with their third child in medical school and their youngest on the undergraduate premed path.

Dr. A listens and patiently responds. He does not overbook, so you get in and out in minimal time. Prescriptions are sent in before u leave the office. I have been pleased with the office staff and nurses as well.

Dr Avitabile is a great listener and actually hears what you are saying. I feel he is a caring individual gifted in helping people feel better and find the best options for conditions they are diagnosed with.

My Appt. time is always on time or a few minutes early. I have been seeing Dr. Avitabile for over 10 years and is always a good experience. He stays up to date on his Medical Practice and is always listens to my concerns. His staff is great and I cannot say enough about the Nurses. The entire staff is always helpful. Dr. A was with me for 10 minutes for the first time ever and already prescribed me 2 medicines just based on what I told him. No blood tests or anything. It feels like he’s very quick to medicate. Will not be returning.
