Dr. Ulmer is an amazing doctor, I love the fact that she is not a band-aid doctor. She truly cares and wants to get to the root of the problem and fix it for good. I also really love the fact that she does not want your child tShow moreo stay on medications long term. I love that her goal for your child is to be as normal and healthy as truly possible. She really listens and takes the time to explain her plan/protocol for your child. My 9yr old daughter who was seeing another GI doctor since she was 2 and being giving medications at increasingly doses each visit is now completely off of medications after seeing Dr. Ulmer for a little over a year. My 7yr old has a plethora of other medical issues, but she has giving me a diagnosis and I feel with the diet plan she has placed her is doing wonders for her as well where she is only requiring a minimal medications. I'm truly happy and a thankful mom and if she would see adults I would be a patient of hers too.
Our son, who is 12 now, has had severe stomach pain off and on for years, with the longest stretch being a year and half with no relief- and I mean severe pain. He had seen doctors in multiple states, all with no answers. When we Show moremoved to Ocean Springs in 2022, we were referred to Dr. Ulmer. Long story short- she figured out the issue, put him on meds for a bit, and now- NO PAIN!!!!! Our sweet boy who was tortured by his stomach pain for so long is finally pain-free. Dr. Ulmer runs an incredible practice, and the staff and absolutely wonderful. Everyone there cares. And they cared enough to take the time to actually figure out what was wrong. THANK YOU!!!
April Ulmer, MD, aka “The Tummy Dr.,” is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist who practices on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi at Kids and Tummies, in Gulfport and Ocean Springs.
Dr. Ulmer is a native Mississippian who received her medical training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and her post-graduate training at prestigious medical centers along the East Coast in cities including Washington, DC.; Danville, Pennsylvania; and Buffalo, New York, before ultimately returning to Mississippi to practice.
In addition to being a dedicated physician, she is a loving and committed wife and mother to her two little girls. Dr. Ulmer describes herself as a physician who practices the art of “clinical medicine” with a “common sense” approach. She strives every day to treat each child and family as unique, and in a way that cares for and nurtures the “whole” child.
Dr. Ulmer states, “I’m a mom, so when I hear concerns from the parents in my medical practice, I ‘get’ it. As parents, we work to ensure that our children have access to the best of everything, and that should extend to their medical care. I highly recommend Dr. Ulmer. From the moment we walked into the office, we felt welcomed and cared for. Dr Ulmer has a warm and compassionate bedside manner that immediately put my daughter at ease. I took my grandson to other doctors,He was very sick. They all said he had a stomach bug and it had to run its course. He cried saying please get me some help, he hurt so bad , lost weight. I called Kids and Tummies. They made appointment and started the treatment. He’s so much better. Thank God for them

Dr. Ulmer made us feel like family. She is very thorough, great bedside manners, and knowledgeable. My daughters surgery went well and she was better after a couple months of meds. She doesn’t talk at you and does a great job at explaining what’s happening and a course of action. She will be my go to pediatric GI for my daughters and any other kids I have!

Definitely recommend Dr. Ulmer to anyone whose child has gut issues. When I started coming to her about 10 years ago for my eldest child. No doctor could get my daughter right but Dr Ulmer did.

Dr Ulmer is an awesome Doctor. She treated my grandson for ulcers now seeing my great grandson. She takes the time to talk to you, explains things, answers questions and addresses concerns without rushing. She’s the kindest most caring Dr I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.

We've been to two appointments at Kids and Tummies and have had the best experience. Everyone in office takes the time to get down on my daughter's level and connect with her, and they also take all of my questions and concerns very seriously and explain everything thoroughly to me. Our experience with Dr Ulmer, as well as her staff, has been nothing short of a blessing, given the situation. Although we are early on in our “quest” to figure out my sons GI issues, she and her staff have been nothing short of diligent. They are leaving no stone unturned. I feel blessed to have been referred to her by my sons Pediatric GP, Dr Jenifer Grayson.

Staff was very friendly, acted in a professional manner. They asked the right questions to understand what was going on personally with our child. The Dr was spot on and I totally felt confident that she is going to be able to help our child.
