Once upon a time a lovely but perpetually stressed out lady went to the dentist for her first oral cancer screening followed by a routine cleaning. She was age sixty and had decided it was time for such an exam since there was a fShow moreamily history of oral cancer. This particular old lady trusted her friendly hygienist’s steady and gentle twenty years of experience. She opened and closed her mouth and moved her tongue side to side, as prompted. The troubling thing was that she couldn’t help but notice that with each movement she could feel her jaw clicking, almost like a wooden roller coaster on a painstakingly slow ascent. With the end of the dental cleaning in sight, at the pinnacle of anticipation, the dental chair she was held captive in took a nosedive, barreling into a hard right as the rider patient was thrust through an inevitable muscle spasm, complete with swelling, aching, and (gracious me!) her jaw was soon as stuck as a fair goer at the mercy of a carny rat. Her only hope was to remain calm as, through clenched teeth, she answered the hygienist’s rapid-fire questions. Patient—hygienist—dentist teamwork took care of the immediate problem. Generously spraying the entire right side of the lovely lady’s bare-naked face with an icy-cold spray provided enough temporary relief to enable her to comply with the commands of the wise old dentist as he coached his patient to slowly open her mouth, more, and more, and then some more until the dentist could complete his exam, bringing the dental roller-coaster ride to a controlled and smooth stop with the reassuring words: “she looks good!” Moral of the story: Take care of your whole self, including body, mind, soul and spirit. Go to the dentist regularly and remember that wise dentists and their dental hygienists are there to help you stay healthy and happy. They have the skills to help you in dental scenarios of all kinds. Trust God to use them for good in your life. Additional Hints: Application of moist heat to a sore jaw, fresh hot coffee, mashed potatoes, with Italian ice for dessert, while watching JAG reruns on a rainy afternoon is a valid way to “squeeze the day” after taking a punch from the enemy or when you go through unexpected trouble at a dental checkup.

I appreciate the level of professionalism, friendliness and overall demeanor of everyone I encounter, particularly Dr. Simmons. He is an excellent dentist. After being a patient here now for a few years, I can confidently tell you that he does amazing work is thorough and does not recommend procedures that are unnecessary. I moved away from the area and have been driving across the city for the past couple years to continue going to see Dr. Simmons because I know I will always have a positive experience and I know that I can trust him. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who is only ho-hum about their current dentist. With his 45 years’ experience in comprehensive dentistry, patients know they’re in safe hands with Dennis Simmons, DDS, of Brite Smiles Dental Care in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Dr. Simmons did his undergraduate at Hamline University after graduating from Burnsville High School. He was interested in being a dentist at a very young age because he liked the “tools” the dentist had. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1976, with a Class Honor in prosthetics. Following graduation, he did a three-year internship in periodontics.
His first practice was in Chaska, Minnesota. He followed that by opening a practice in Burnsville. As the owner of Brite Smiles Dental Care he continues his passion for dentistry, to ensure his patients continue to enjoy healthy smiles for years to come.
Dr. Simmons has had a strong commitment to learning throughout his career. He has completed an additional 2,500 plus hours in advanced training in all aspects of dental care. He has advanced training in occlusion, surgery, endodontic, periodontics, cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry, TMD and TMJ disorders and implantology placement and restoration.
His extensive training and commitment to stay at the forefront of dental innovation have helped him to earn the status of Diplomate from the International Congress of Oral Implantology. This status puts him in the elite among dentists in Minnesota, the Apple Valley, and the southern metro area.

Another dentist told me that I needed extensive dental restoration, which did not make sense since iI go to the dentist regularly. I went to Brite Smiles for a 2nd opinion and sure enough, I really only needed 1 crown. It's a well run office with experienced staff.
