About Dr. Elaine Ahillen, MD

Elaine J. Ahillen, MD​, is a skilled orthopaedic surgeon dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to patients with disorders of the hand and upper extremity with non-operative and surgical treatments. She treats patients at Arthritis & Sports | Orthopaedics, Physical Therapy & Wellness in Sterling, Virginia. 

After attending the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, for her undergraduate education, Dr. Ahillen received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. 

Subsequently, she received fellowship training in hand surgery at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky and fellowship training in sports medicine at TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. 

Dr. Ahillen is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care for her patients with advanced techniques. Her expertise includes minimally invasive and arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, hand, wrist, and elbow. She also specializes in reconstructive surgery for traumatic and arthritic conditions of the hand and upper extremity.

Dr. Ahillen is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

In 2022, Dr. Ahillen was named a “Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly. 

Dr. Ahillen is an active community volunteer and has a particular passion for therapeutic horse riding.
