Dr. Samir Nayyar and NP Erika Franco, not to sound like a cliche, are nothing short of angels sent from heaven. I testify that they are proof God works miracles through our hands. For 15 years my knee continued to deteriorate afteShow morer arthroscopic surgery due to an on the job injury as a US Postal letter carrier. The surgeon at the time informed me it would continue to get worse and TKR would ultimately be the only solution. I continued to deliver mail and take opioids for the next 15 years and the condition of my knee went straight downhill. At one point I consulted with Dr. Nayyar and was told I was an excellent candidate for TKR and was encouraged to lose some weight first to ensure a better recovery. I decided to wait until I dropped a few pounds but I continued to gain weight, my right leg slowly started bending outward at the knee, and even with the opioids the pain was constantly unbearable. Finally I reached the limits of my endurance and was forced to retire from the USPS. Unfortunately my return visit to the Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Institute was delayed due to the pandemic and I was unable to seek help until an additional year later. Upon returning, Dr. Nayyar agreed to perform the procedure. From that moment forward, my right knee improvement has continued to skyrocket upwards. The surgery was successful and the recovery process was something amazing, practically unbelievable. Ms. Franco was there every step of the way, before, during, and after. She has helped me manage my physical progress through recommendations of physical therapy, periodic x-rays, always available telephone consultations, and most importantly she continuously counseled me on proper pain management resulting in my cessation of opioid use for 15 years. My improved mobility has allowed me to be more active and actually lose a total of 52 pounds total. Although I am only at my 6 month post operative point I am totally confident I will be fully recovered by 12 months if not sooner. Both Dr. Nayyar and NP Franco and their wonderful team have given me the confidence to embrace my new quality of life and enjoy my retired golden years. These marvelous instruments of God refuse to accept praise and gratitude, they consistently inspire their patients by insisting they have only accomplished a small part and the patient is mostly responsible for their own recovery. I will not hesitate for a minute to return for any future issues and highly recommend their team for anyone seeking treatment for any orthopedic related issues.
Had my first surgery ever on my body, for this was my thumb, everything went well. Came back to the office for post Op visit and Erica examined me and gave a thumbs up. The entire office staff, surgery center and doctor Nayyar madShow moree me feel very comfortable and I was. I trust Dr. Nayyar and Erica Franco for their medical knowledge and caring personalities. This is truly a awesome practice, I recommend visiting this Sports and Orthopedic practice best in the High Desert, actually the best anywhere.
Erika Franco, NP, is a board-certified nurse practitioner at the four Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Institute offices in Victorville, Pomona, and Barstow, California. She sees patients in the office and assists the surgeons in the operating room.
Ms. Franco is passionate about educating and serving her patients while monitoring their progress and guiding them back to a healthy quality of life.
Ms. Franco earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing at the Dominican University of California in San Rafael. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Ms. Franco worked as a registered nurse in an operating room, where she discovered a passion for working with patients during surgical procedures.
She decided to further her education to become a family nurse practitioner and obtained her master’s degree at the United States University of California in San Diego.
Being a former college athlete, Ms. Franco personally understands the injuries athletes endure and what they need for treatment and rehabilitation to return to their sports and daily activities. She is committed to providing high-quality and compassionate care at all times.

Erika is beyond great. She makes a person feel comfortable and is a very professional person but yet extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
