Dr. Stephens is absolutely incredible! He is thorough, knowledgeable, and has a wonderful bedside manner. I have been his patient for a couple of years now. He provided pain relief for my SI joint dysfunction and recently performeShow mored my SI fusion, once the other modalities stopped working. He is now working on decreasing my L4-5 pain, and I am, again, thoroughly impressed. He is mindful, using the less invasive means of pain control, and is all around a top-notch doctor and good human being!

James W. Stephens, DO, is an anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained interventional pain medicine physician at Interventional Pain Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
A native of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Dr. Stephens received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University (OSU). He attended the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete both his anesthesiology residency and interventional pain fellowship at OU Health Sciences Center. He was lucky enough to spend a large portion of his pain fellowship with private practice pain physicians who volunteered their time to educate him.
Dr. Stephens enjoys caring for his patients. His goal is to lessen your pain and figure out why you are in pain. He believes that every pain physician must be an expert diagnostician. In order to be that, you not only have to have excellent medical knowledge, but you also have to listen to your patients.
Dr. Stephens enjoys his specialty and helping patients live happier, healthier lives. He practices the full scope of interventional pain management and has a special interest in minimally invasive surgical treatments for pain as well as injection therapies. Dr. Stephens is a national expert in the minimally invasive treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. He keeps up with the latest treatments for pain, analyzes them, and implements them in his practice when it is the right choice for his patients. Dr. Stephens enjoys all aspects of practicing medicine, especially reading and researching new ways to help his patients. His goal is always to decrease pain and improve function by utilizing the least invasive method possible.
Besides his medical practice, Dr. Stephens is busy at home, where he enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his wife and three young children. They enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring their favorite getaway, Beavers Bend State Park.

I was a little confused about the procedure I’m having and needed more explanation but didn’t feel comfortable when asking for clarification. I felt rushed and I think Dr. Stephens could have slowed down and explained things better.
Nurses are extremely friendly and accommodating. They called me by name and were concerned with my health issues. Dr Stephens is extremely knowledgeable about pain mgnt, what helps, the benefits of each procedure, and the likely outcome. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Stephens is easy to talk to. He stopped my pain. It was easy to get in and out of this office. I feel like the staff kept my appointment times, I did not wait an hour not once. Thank you for helping me!!

I’ve been seeing Dr Stephens for several years and with my back problems, I would not go any other place. Everyone that works in his office has been absolutely wonderful and works with me as I do not live in the Norman area.
Doctor stevens is Always concerned, especially if the shots or the treatment didn't work.You can see the care on his face.He wants us to feel better. He's always on time, is hardly any waiting.And the staff is just so nice. Especially Alice.

Dr. Stephens is clear and honest. Up front he told me the procedure would hurt. He worked quickly and I was done in no time. His staff are great and I don’t think even one of them called me sweetie or dear.
Dr. Stephens is compassionate and honestly cares. His professionalism is comforting when one simply seeks to be relieved of debilitating pain. The staff are wonderful.
