This was my first visit and prior to my appointment I was very skeptical, not because of the doctor, but because I’ve been through so much over the past 7 years. To begin, the lady at the front desk was very polite and helpful Show morewhen I had questions regarding my initial paperwork. We were also very early to my appointment and they made it work. His assistant was very pleasant and understanding as we explained everything I had been through. It’s a lot and she received the information and typed it all in quickly while also reviewing feedback on recent MRI. When doctor came in he was very polite and I actually felt like he listened to my concerns. He was not pushy regarding medications and my lack of taking certain types. I appreciated the “let’s try this” slow pace approach. I did not feel as if I was being rushed and pushed through a cattle guard. I’m excited to see how things work out.

James W. Stephens, DO, is an anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained interventional pain medicine physician at Interventional Pain Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
A native of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Dr. Stephens received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University (OSU). He attended the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete both his anesthesiology residency and interventional pain fellowship at OU Health Sciences Center. He was lucky enough to spend a large portion of his pain fellowship with private practice pain physicians who volunteered their time to educate him.
Dr. Stephens enjoys caring for his patients. His goal is to lessen your pain and figure out why you are in pain. He believes that every pain physician must be an expert diagnostician. In order to be that, you not only have to have excellent medical knowledge, but you also have to listen to your patients.
Dr. Stephens enjoys his specialty and helping patients live happier, healthier lives. He practices the full scope of interventional pain management and has a special interest in minimally invasive surgical treatments for pain as well as injection therapies. Dr. Stephens is a national expert in the minimally invasive treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. He keeps up with the latest treatments for pain, analyzes them, and implements them in his practice when it is the right choice for his patients. Dr. Stephens enjoys all aspects of practicing medicine, especially reading and researching new ways to help his patients. His goal is always to decrease pain and improve function by utilizing the least invasive method possible.
Besides his medical practice, Dr. Stephens is busy at home, where he enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his wife and three young children. They enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring their favorite getaway, Beavers Bend State Park.

As always when doc does my injections, I feel at ease and comfortable during procedure. I never worry about the shots because I know I am in great care with both doctors at interventional pain management. They are the only ones I will let perform injections on me! Very professional. He cares about his patients. Very timely with getting patients in and out.
After ablation of neck nerves and a follow-on injection, I am mostly pain free. Before the treatment I was really miserable and had serious difficulty sleeping. Dr. Stephens also helped me with bilateral sciatica pain years ago, which is why I returned to him for my neck pain. He listens well and is prompt is delievering treatment.
Dr Stephen's is amazing. Usually it's a short visit with not much to say. This visit was more extensive and he was up to the task. I appreciate him very much.

I’ve been visiting Pain Management clinics for over 15 years because of my long-term condition I must take time to share my visit to Dr. Stephen’s clinic, and I finally feel at ease. Although my condition is a long-term process becoming a patient of Dr. Stephen’s gives me hope and I feel appreciated as a patient and as a human, he listens to me. The entire clinic staff is respectful and attentive during my visits -I wish I would it have found him 15 years ago. Thank y'all!
Listens to our concerns
Dr Stephens and his staff at the Interventional Pain Center are skilled at what they do and are compassionately in tune with patient needs. Dr Stephens is totally knowledgeable and up-to-date in his field and his skills as a pain management physician are excellent. He listens to me and talks to me, answering my questions and explaining as needed. I would definitely recommend Dr Stephens to anyone needing a pain management specialist.

This place has been the best ever since I moved back to OK. They are quick to respond and even fit me in when I need something different than reason of being there.
Did not have a long wait, was seen very quickly. personnel were very friendly and professional. I have no complaints except still can’t play the piano!!
My experience with Dr Stephens was a fairly quick procedure to take away or lessen the pain. By the time we left the office the back pain was lessening. Dr Stephens is very easy to talk to and puts you at ease

From the minute you walk in the staff is very friendly and helpful. The Doctors and nurses are awesome. I have been thru 3 other pain managements and none were as good as Dr. Stephens. We always talk fishing when I see him during the visit.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Stephens for a year and five months. Entrusting him with the chronic severe pain I live with 24/7, is the best decision I’ve made. Under his care, he has kept me comfortable and at ease with my pain.
