Jay I. Lippman, MD, FACS, ABES, Senior Surgeon and Medical Director, is recognized both nationally and internationally, as a surgical pioneer and teacher. Born and raised in New York City, he graduated from its elite Stuyvesant High School, and from Brooklyn College, where he was a New York State Regents College Scholar and the recipient of numerous awards upon graduation. He received his medical degree from the Rosalind Franklin University of the Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. After completing his internship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Doctor Lippman served as a Flight Surgeon with the Air Force’s 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing, during the Vietnam conflict. During his aviation, medical training, he became interested in Ophthalmology and after completing military service, underwent residency training in ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he served as a Chief Resident.
Dr. Lippman is certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgery, being one of only a handful of surgeons in the nation to be certified by this board both in cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Lippman is a Life Fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He has published more than 50 scientific articles in medical journals, and textbooks, as well as medical newspapers, and has presented hundreds of papers and courses at scientific meetings throughout North America, including numerous Visiting Professor Presentations.
Dr. Lippman’s medical and surgical skills have grown over the years, and he has been recognized with many awards and appointments, including both the prestigious Honor Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as its coveted Senior Achievement Award; as well as the Honor Award and Senior Honor Award of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists. He has been listed in every edition of Woodward and White’s elite medical reference, “The Best Doctors in America”. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, the American College of Eye Surgeons, and the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is a Past President of the New York Intraocular Lens Society. Additionally, Dr. Lippman is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and is a Senior Attending Surgeon at the New York Eye and Ear infirmary. He is the Medical Director of the Eye Surgery Center of Westchester, located in New Rochelle, New York.
