I was required to have a field vision test at my optometrist's practice. It is due to my having beginnings of macular degeneration. I am 82 years old, and The State of North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles sent a letter to mShow moree stating that I needed to ascertain my peripheral vision scores on a form for review by their medical department. That was the reason for my visit today. The staff put me at ease, gave me a time slot of an hour for my exam, checked many visual issues with and without glasses, and filled out the form for me. I was nervous and didn't understand why I needed this test since I see either Dr. Kathryn Hecker or Dr. Chaunhi Van semi-annually and have outstanding service at this eye-care center. My final results were reassuring. I have no visual restrictions that might affect my driving ability, and there are no concerns about my ability to operate a motor vehicle; there is no recommendation from this specialist for a DMV follow up; Thank you, Dr. Van, for the thorough required exam you and three of your excellent assistants provided for me. Dr. Hecker came highly recommended by my retna Dr, Dr. Mathews. I was extremely apprehensive about cataract surgery but he assured me Dr Hecker was one of the best in the area. It took a couple of months to get an appointment wShow moreith her but it was worth the wait. I felt comfortable with her the moment I met her. She explained options for implants, answered my questions and helped me make the best decision for my needs while taking into consideration that I have MD, am a possible candidate for glaucoma and have a stigmatism. I just had my right eye done without any issues whatsoever. My next surgery is scheduled to take place in four weeks. Once the two are complete and have had time to heal, I am confident I will get my close up vision back so I can go back to doing the things I love and have missed since my close up vision went south.
Kathryn J. Hecker, M.D., F.A.A.O., is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist. Dr. Hecker has been serving Greensboro and the surrounding areas since 1997. She received her undergraduate degree in education from Central Michigan University, with a minor in biology, and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. She then worked for six years as an elementary school teacher in Texas. After putting herself back in school, she received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, a highly ranked medical school, where she graduated in the top quarter of her class. She then completed a year of training in Internal Medicine at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut, an affiliate of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System and a major teaching affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then went on to complete her Ophthalmology residency training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Hecker is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Since her original board certification in 1997, she has maintained the rigorous standards set by the American Board of Ophthalmology for maintenance of board certification. Her training and background experience in the field of education have enhanced her lifelong passion for education and facilitated a natural transition to caring for her patients. Can't say enough about Dr. HECKER and her team.
I came into the office rather nervous. All of the ladies and gentleman were very nice and answered all my questions putting me at ease. Dr. Hecker was very friendly and outgoing. The procedure took just a minute or so and I was done. She is a lady I trust and will always see her if any further issues arise in n the future.
