We drove over 100 miles for the appointment with Dr. Ashford that we had been waiting for OVER 2 Months! We arrived 20 minutes early and were taken to an Exam room about 10 Am which was our appointment time. The representative saShow moreid that Dr. Ashford would be in shortly and initially apologized for the delay. We sat there for OVER AND HOUR before Dr. Ashford Finally came in. We discussed Nancy's Incontinence issues and the many, many medications that she had tried as well as the multitude of Dr's she had seen. Dr. Ashford seemed to feel that she should try a higher dose of Botox. He indicated that he would TRY to prioritize the next appointment for that but seemed unprepared as he was not aware of when she had received the last Botox injections or what amount it was. I had given the Clinic access to Nancy's Mayo Clinic records as well as access to Olmsted Medical records which showed this information when Dr. Christopher did her injections but obviously Dr. Ashford had apparently not taken the time to access those records. Dr. Ashford was very knowledgeable about Nancy's condition but seemed "unprepared" to treat her as he had apparently not examined her records. Dr. Ashford NEVER alluded to our wait of over an hour or apologized for same. This extended appointment made us LATE for an 11:30 Appointment so i was not happy about that! I can appreciate how valuable Dr. Ashford's time is but he seemed unconcerned as to the importance of our time!
It really meant a lot to me that Dr Ashford was willing to call me at home for a conversation at 8:30pm after not being able to make my appointment to discuss tge findings of my lab work. I feel like he really listens to my struggShow moreles with aging & truly cares. The hormone replacement therapy has been a godsend for many years, but as I get older it looks as though I need to add some additional supplements and treatments to feel the zest I had in my 40s! Dr Ashford listens and takes my concerns seriously and that means so much to me- very satisfied!
Meet Dr. Ashford
Melvin Ashford, MD, is an expert urogynecologist helping patients at his practice in Maplewood, Minnesota. Dr. Ashford has dedicated his surgical career to the evaluation and treatment of women with vaginal and pelvic disorders or concerns. He is one of the first physicians in the nation to be board certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (now known as urogynecology). He has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and other complex pelvic floor conditions. His goal is restoring pelvic organs to their normal, symptomless state both functionally and anatomically.
Dr. Ashford earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1997. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He rounded out his medical training at St. Peter's University Health Center for Women, where he received formal training on the surgical and medical management of women with pelvic floor disorders and urinary incontinence.
Following his training, Dr. Ashford worked at Healtheast Care System, Aspen Medical Group, and Minnesota Women's Care, where he was named the executive and medical director.
Dr. Ashford continuously monitors advancements in the field and has traveled the world to learn and perfect his skill sets to better address the needs of his patients. Over the past eight years, he was worked with doctors in Italy, Austria, London, Scotland, and the U.S. His training in female pelvic reconstructive surgery, OBGYN, and cosmetic gynecology combined with a keen aesthetic eye result in raving accolades from his patients. He has been named a "Top Doctor" by MPLS/St. Paul Magazine every year since 2014.

Working with Dr. Ashford has been literally life changing. I was referred to him during my first appointment at MN Women’s Care after complaining of unexplained chronic pelvic pain, digestive issues, and painful periods. I was in for a laser treatment and was prepped and laid on the table for about 50 minutes with no one coming to check. For the conditions I have laying on my back and having to wait so long was very painful. I realize I could have sat up on the table but sitting is much more painful.

I always prefer to see female doctors. I was definitely nervous about seeing a male doctor for the issues I'm having. Dr. Ashford really listened to my concerns and symptoms. I felt like he took me and my problems seriously. I felt heard. He answered my questions, didn't mind me interrupting him a few times. He explained things in a way I understood. He made an action plan in stages that felt manageable. I felt like he will be there to support me through the process.

Dr Ashford has been always direct straight to the point. I would recommend him to any woman in my family that's how good I think he is. But there's a lot of positive things to say about Dr. Ashford you would just have to visit the clinic and request him to know what a lot of his patients know about him.
