I was referred to Sunshine Psychiatry through my health insurance. My inicial appointment was in person with an ARNP in the Fort Myers office. After that initial appointment, I was referred to schedule an appointment with Dr. MonrShow moreoy. I was hesitant to consult with him, first, because he is a male and then, hesitant because this was my only to possibly learn how to live a happy and productive life. Even though Dr. Monroy has helped me a lot during the past year, and he has gradually being able to get me out of a very dark places, “I know that I still have a long way to go”. Nelson Monroy, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist at Sunshine Psychiatry in Fort Myers, Florida. A proud member of the practice since its founding in 2018, he currently serves as one of its collaborating doctors.
Dr. Monroy was born in El Salvador, Central America, and is fluent in Spanish and English. He attended the Universidad de El Salvador, earning his doctorate in 1987.
After coming to the United States, he joined a Family Practice residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Michigan State University sponsored this prestigious program. He then completed his Psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU Medical Center).
Dr. Monroy provides outpatient psychiatric care to adults and children with acute or chronic mental health problems, psychopharmacologic treatment, treatment planning, team reviews, and referrals for both in-patient and outpatient settings.
As a doctor, including 14 years’ experience as a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Monroy has proven to be an invaluable asset to patients in and around Fort Myers.

Provider listened to me. I felt comfortable talking to him.
Dr. Monroy actually listens to you. He doesn't want to just push medication he actually talks with you from his personal experiences and life. He recommended a book for me to read that has been so helpful.
