Felt like my concerns were heard and my anxiety recognized. However, I still felt like my wanting to understand pain management during the procedure was perceived as frivolous by most of the staff before the date of procedure and Show moreday of. I recognize that women’s pain is minimized when compared to men’s but asking for something to reduce the pain and discomfort from regular procedures is a reasonable request. We didn’t end up having to do a biopsy today, so no pain management was given. However the procedure did result in pain both from burning sensation during the staining and a stabbing sensation during the collection of cells from inside the cervix. Pretty much anything invasive that results in bleeding should have the option for a topical even if it is not standard practice. All I’ve read on colposcopy indicates that a topical can and should be used at a patient’s request. I shouldn’t be made to feel frivolous when I advocate for myself—either directly or indirectly.

After seeing him I was able to have a mammogram completed in the same building even though I did not have a scheduled appointment saving me another trip into Atlanta from Senoia. I have been a patient at this practice for over 40 years and will continue seeing these doctors because I trust their judgement and appreciate their services.
Meet Dr. Barratt
Peter J. Barratt, MD, FACOG, is an OB/GYN serving patients in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. He joined the team at Atlanta Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates in July 2005.
Dr. Barratt has been in practice in Atlanta since 1986. He earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Ohio and completed his internship and residency and obstetrics and gynecology at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio.
Prior to joining the team at Atlanta Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates, he served as President of Prime Time Obstetrics and Gynecology for 16 years. Dr. Barratt has served on the boards of West Paces Medical Center, the Medical Association of Atlanta, the Trinity Early Learning Center, and the Agape Youth and Family Center. He currently serves on the Leadership Council of Piedmont Hospital, chairs the Physician Performance Evaluation Committee, and is vice-chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He is a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is affiliated with Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
Dr. Barratt is married with one daughter. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, reading, exercising, and watching baseball.

I have been seeing Dr. Barrett for 30 years. So sorry to see him retire. Congratulations and enjoy many years of retirement.

Excellent, compassionate care
Dr Barratt is the best doctor I and my daughter have ever had in all these trusted 20 years. He cares, is kind and meticulous- NEVER reflects anything but a Pleasant demeanor no matter a circumstance and always made us feel Calm and safe. There will Never be another like him, he will Be so very missed.
