I have been with Dr. Akkad & Dr. Minor since he saved my life in 2010 Dec when I came in to ER with a M.I. Heart Attack and I will have to say, I was happy then and now that all they have been doing since then, is giving me awesomShow moree tips to further prevent another H.Attack but because my heart could no take Stints, the idea was to eat better, and Being a Vegan for a long time has helped big time. But I could never leave sugar & bread for a long time, and would stay at 300+ lbs, sometimes getting to 285, or 290 but I would just yoyo, but Dr. Minor one day told me something that was simple. but kinda amazing, that "I could eat different, if I want to, and if you did, you will feel better", I told her, that it will not happen, and gave many excuses. So to prove Dr. Minor and Dr. Akkad wrong, I finally changed my eating habits after years, and I can fully say I feel better as of today 4.16.24, and 7months I have lost a little over 75 lbs I have went to 300lbs, then to 289 - and now 222. I was 225 when I went to visit last, but I lost few more, I am now chasing to get to 200, and I'm confident, with my diet and exercise, and more motivation from my Dr's I will feel even better than I do now, I even dance now more, when I sing on stage with my Band, instead of sitting many times during a show, (which I used to do) now, I have a lot more fun! Its a great day for me when I think about going to the Affiliated Cardiologist of AZ and visit Dr. Minor & Dr. A. I will always feel like what they helped me was super lifesaving. Zaher Akkad, MD, FACC, is a cardiologist at Affiliated Cardiologists of Arizona, with four locations in Phoenix, Maricopa, Goodyear, and Chandler, Arizona. Dr. Akkad holds multiple board certifications, including internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography, as well as Endovascular Medicine.
Dr. Akkad was trained at Wayne State University-affiliated hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. Before joining Affiliated Cardiologists of Arizona, Dr. Akkad was an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Wayne State University. During this time, he was the Interim Director of the Echocardiography Lab.
He has published multiple textbook chapters in the fields of cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, and congestive heart failure.
Dr. Akkad’s clinical skills are outstanding. He is a multi-talented cardiologist, he is experienced in all aspects of non-invasive cardiology, including echocardiography, transesophageal echo, and nuclear cardiology. He is a fully-trained interventional cardiologist with superb skills in all aspects of cardiac Catheterization and stents also endovascular, carotid and peripheral interventions as well as pacemaker implantation. He is experienced in Structural Cardiac interventions including TAVR and Watchman procedures.

I can't say enough good about Dr Akkad and Katie. They are extremely knowledgeable and yet very good at explaining things so us regular people understand what they are talking about. The best part is that they are so nice while they are doing it. I also appreciated that they are so thorough in finding out what the problem may be. Amazing experience for my first time visiting a cardiologist. The doctor and PA were both amazing, friendly, and very open. They really put me at ease and took the time to make sure I was comfortable and my concerns were addressed.

Staff is really pleasant.. Deisy was very helpful. Katie is always concerned about my well being.
I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment. Check-in was quick and easy. I was called by medical assistant, weighed, escorted to exam room, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen measurements were performed. Corrected med list. PA-C Katie Minor came in and asked how I was doing. She committed on my 11 lb weight loss and congratulated me on that. Overall a awesome visit. She is always very professional.
