Dr. Paul Sargent is a highly respected psychiatrist with an extensive background in military medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and completed advanced training in Psychiatry at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
Dr. Sargent has served in various military roles, including as a Flight Surgeon for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. In 2009, he was deployed to Iraq, where he worked as the lead psychiatrist at Camp Al Taqqadum, located in the Al Anbar province. During this time, he was the only military psychiatrist in the area and initiated programs to help soldiers with sleep issues using cognitive behavioral therapy.
After returning from deployment, Dr. Sargent established the Overcoming Adversity and Stress Injury Support (OASIS) Program, a specialized treatment facility for service members suffering from complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
He was later appointed as the first psychiatrist to work with the Naval Special Warfare community, providing mental health services to Navy SEALs and their support teams on the West Coast.
Following this role, Dr. Sargent achieved board certification in Brain Injury Medicine and was named the Medical Director of the Intrepid Spirit Center at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. Here, he led a team of 50 healthcare professionals in offering advanced care for traumatic brain injury (TBI) to a large group of active-duty military personnel.
In his final position with the Navy, he played a key role in developing policies and programs aimed at enhancing psychological resilience across the Navy, contributing significantly to the Navy’s Mental Health Playbook.
Since leaving the Navy, Dr. Sargent has continued to work in his field, focusing on clinical practice and advising on psychological resilience strategies for large organizations. He has co-authored more than 20 scientific articles and is passionate about helping individuals and teams overcome adversity and thrive in challenging situations.
